To Curse or Not To Curse

One of the concerns Darron Grant had when he came to me with this blog idea was my use of colorful language aka cursing in emails he had seen me send out to the industry.

Darron is a decent guy and he doesn’t like that sort of thing. I wrote an email last year headlined “who de ass is some body” don’t remember who right now, and in 2004 I wrote a memorable email utilising colorful language to emphasise that the music you produce is your “R Word” music and nobody can tell you when to release it.

Some time recently in the media a popular band manager (I am not going to call Dwayne’s name) was reported as making several colorful statements in a public place.

Hence the question is: To curse or not to curse, when and where? Let us address these issues shall we?

As I have grown older and wiser in contrast to the years when I was younger and igrunter I have learnt one thing… You should NEVER EVER curse a person or entity; it is not a correct or decent thing to do! Except of course if they want cursing! If you find you are dealing with an idiot and you feel you must curse them by all means go ahead!

But let us examine closely the cursing methods you should use; I have found that a way of cursing the authorities that really gets their goat is simple, tell the truth! Tell them about how they are conflicting with their mandate and making promises and not keeping them, and how they still owe you money for the DVD, they hate that! And you can do that without using obscene language.

So in other words you can curse some body without being really obscene in the first place. If you want to be effective at meetings you must eliminate the cursing, do your research and prepare to be effective with concise and factual information. Hold your ground and put over your points in a “biting manner” like our Prime minister Owen and Deputy Prime Minister Mia and you should achieve your objective.

But if you go through all that and it doesn’t work and you feel the occasion demands it, by all means go ahead, Buse! Just make sure the meeting is over and the press is not there to report it.

I must admit that I do a little cursing, but as Peter says its about how you curse, language, time , place , who you cursing, why you cursing them…..then again to hell with it sometimes you just get vex and explode this is good for your Blood Pressure once not over done.
However I really don’t appreciate people who use curse words as a regular part of their conversations… its offensive, vulgar and just not on!
