How To Get A Sponsor

A Wise man once said, ask not what your sponsor can do for you, but what you can do for your sponsor…

That wise man was me, that is a motto I always live by especially as I can’t think up any more wise sayings.

As Crop Over 2007 approaches many of us are making our annual treks to the business houses in pursuit of the ever elusive sponsorship dollar.

Years ago when Madd had the Rue Rue retail Store in Bridgetown, (what some people would call a “Real” business) budding entertainers would come to Rue Rue to ask for sponsorship. I would meet with them and ask “So what are you going to do for it?”

And they would be like “what do you mean what would I do? You want me to do something?” Then they would look at me like I was weird, but I was weird so that was alright. My weird point is that people go looking for sponsorship with the attitude that companies have loads of money that they are doing nothing with, and they are just waiting to give it to you! Take an eraser and erase that from your mind now, good!

Always approach a potential sponsor with an effective proposal and blow them away, and when I say blow them I mean with the proposal. Be prepared to list all the multiplicity of coverage they will receive just for that small sponsorship contribution. Chances are you will be successful. It, works for us, now you know our sponsor secret.

Repeat after me “Ask not what your sponsor can do for you, but what you can do for your sponsor” Good!

Now repeat after me: All the money I make this year, I will send to Madd……. oh you caught on? Just thought I would try a ting……
