Hit for Six Movie; Likes & Dislikes

I saw the Bajan movie “Hit for Six” at the Olympus the other night and will now give you my likes and dislikes about the flick.

Frankly, “I like it badd!”*.

That movie “Hit for Six” was so hard then, I give it two thumbs and two big toes up! Ms Alison Saunders Franklyn did an excellent movie making job. She reminds me of why “I Like Women Badd”, to have created such a progressive movie that is an excellent representation of not only Barbados but the Caribbean.

I like how the movie grips you from the start and brings you into the cricket action and drama. I like how you didn’t have to understand cricket to get the movie as you know I am a cricket idiot!

I like how the movie looks on the screen and the quality of the production. As a person who goes on location shooting video I appreciate the precise and pain staking effort that would have gone into filming those cricket action close ups and crowd scenes*.

I liked the acting of Andrew Pilgrim, Alison Sealy Smith, Jeanille Bonterre and Rudolph Walker I liked the supporting roles played by Nirmal Thani, Tony Thompson and Antoine Williams and the villain David Neilands I especially liked Varia Williams not only can she act but that woman look good yuh!

I liked how the drama was captured in the board room scene which featured Clairmonte Taitt as a chairman. To take some thing as boring as a meeting and make it vibrant and tension filled is a credit to the actors and the film maker.

I liked hearing the different Caribbean accents and seeing people you know just popping up all over the movie and scenery of not only Barbados but St Lucia and Trinidad.

I liked the background music, not only the incidental music which helped to set the mood of the scenes but hearing calypso tracks from Natalie, Shontelle and band Jabae (They are from Bacchanal Time too).

What didn’t I like about the movie?
There was a scene where some one drowned (wouldn’t tell you who and spoil it) and I thought you could have seen more of the actual drowning!

Another major dislike of the movie was Darron Grant! Not that he was in the movie it was much too classy for that! But I had to nip outside the cinema to return his computer and when I came back the credits were rolling. So I missed the climax of the movie because of that Yahoo! I don’t even know what happened to the villain. If some one were to find it in their heart to meet Darron and curse him for me I would be grateful.

Congrats again to Alison Saunders Franklyn in taking our local movie production capability up about two to three notches building on what Bongo Lights would have started last year.

The final thing I liked about “Hit For Six” in the credits I saw appropriate credits for the songs which had been used in the film. You need to see “Hit For Six” not only because it’s a local movie but because it’s a great movie!

Next on my list, “The Kite Flyer”!

* “I Like it Badd” was the name of Madd’s 1988 album that is why I keep using that term.

* I want to big up my friend Stacey who I saw in a cricket crowd scene. Hi Stacey… I see you!!
