Admiral Does Not Like Newkey!
Yes, don’t know why but for some reason Admiral Nelson seems to have an intense dislike of newkey.
This is a 2007 song sung by the group “Spin Pooch Ink” which they released for Crop Over.
Controversial announcer Admiral was seen on Morning Barbados CBC TV show recently, attacking newkey in a most bitingly and vicious manner. Being that he was on government owned TV, it would almost appear as though the attack on newkey was politically motivated.
It seems as though government now has adopted as a strategic political policy to bite every Newkey which it can lay its teeth into. Even a song named Newkey is being attacked.
In the cleverly written song Newkey Spin Pooch lead singer “Big Tar” is saying to a girl he is training to sing….
I don’t want no old key, Put it in de newkey
In the vivid picture painted by the lyrics of the song, one can see musical director Big Tar waving his baton franticly doing his best to raise DeKey of the girls voice to get a newkey. He wants DeKey in a newkey which any music lover can appreciate.
What is the matter with that Admiral Nelson?
The even stranger position is that the same Admiral who hates Spin Pooch’s “Newkey” has a great appreciation for lil Ricks “Conch” song.
How can you hate newkey but love conch?
Dat don’t mek no sense.
How can a big hard back man sit down and look in a TV camera and tell all of Barbados that he loves conch but hates newkey.
They are both one and the same thing yuh idiot!
That is what you call a double standard!
It just brings to mind some people that have been eating so much conch that they are like conchs themselves. Those of you who love newkey can find it in Bacchanal Time Calypso Tent open from 23rd June 2007.

If a person is accustomed to an oldkey, they may have trouble retraining themselves or being retrained so it depends on what key the newkey is, for a person to like it?
Some people have a preference for an F or even a G some like a flat or a sharp, depends upon the personal preferenceor range, how much vocal stamina the person may have at the point or has developed over a period of time due to practice.
If the person can sing or not is also an important criteria that needs to be questioned.
Admiral fancies himself as the king of the CBC kaiso competition. None have beaten him since he grabbed the crown a few years back. Perhaps he’d be able to shed some light on which key he sang in and if he plans to sing in a newkey when defending the crown, knowing of all the competition he has around him.
So tell Admiral to embrace the newkey as he may be forced to change at some time, because of circumstances.

Admiral just said on the radio that he ain who do the banning of the song from CBC…and that he would like Peter Boyce to keep his name out of the Bacchannal…
On the different note…for musicians who play string instruments, the newkey falls out the door if the G String gets popped…

In case some people forgot, ASSmiral’s problem is just that. I strongly think that if he had a Newkey OR a more Conch wid alotta Sauce for that matter to keep him busy specially on mornings, he wouldn’t have time to talk so much SHHHHHHTUPIDNESS!!!

Whether it be Conch, New key (and by the way the song is called Pan Key), Sauce, which ever one…. Admiral needs to lighten up…. just enjoy the song for what it is – a clever play on words with a sweet wuk-up beat! Too much analysing does spoil a good ting!

While it can be appreciated that ‘conch’ and ‘newkey” are indeed writen in the same manner the two songs CANNOT be compared. Conch is indeed written classier as well as cleverer while newkey…. well there is no such word. The fact that you have spelt it that way clearly says that the song was written solely to be vulgar. The words are NEW (space) KEY! I personally love both songs as well as both performers and will be at the tent just to see Newkey. OK? ADMIRAL IS ENTITLED TO HIS OPINIONS.

I have to agree with Blondie, the two songs are incomparable, Lil Rick’s song is not as raunchy as Spin Pooch’s one though both be about generally the same thing. Istill like the both of them though…wukkup time mannn!

in responce to Blondie, just to clear up some things, the song is named “Pan Key” and not New Key, and the words New Key have a space in them. Also last time in checked both words “New” and “Key” are listed in the english dictionary and nither are vulgar.

Well thanks for clearing up a WHOLE set of nothing. The comment was about ‘newkey’ ’cause that is how the heading was written. ‘ADMIRAL DOES NOT LIKE NEWKEY’. I see no space. No space. ‘newkey’, is not a word. If you are saying that ‘newkey’ is not the official name of the song then so be it. I still like it and I will be at Bachannal Time Tent tomorow to support Pan Key, New Key or Newkey. Where will you be.

This is my second post and I’m still being called a stranger, anyways….Admiral usually makes some good points and some of us make it a point to focus on the person rather than the message at times. The song “newkey” is a good as “newshite”. I commend SpinPooch efforts but I think they should focus on their strength as dancers.Lets be honest here…there is no comparison musically between Conch & NewKey.

I hate to hear people in general being critical on recent calypso especially comparing them to Sparrow etc. Sparrow had the most vulgar calypsos ever and that is why he was king. “Neva had a white meat yet”, the one where he on the beach and the mosquito sting him on his ass and that is why he had to wine while on top of the woman etc. He had no more tact than present day calypsos cause I am 30yrs now and I understood what he was singing about when I first heard them when I was young.
As for the braced DJ he was the one who started all the dub culture which he now abhors back when liberty started in the 80’s and he was the main man on the wheels of steel. People would realize that admiral started becoming a bitter bitch when his popularity went into decline and just like the porn queen he too had to diversify and nothing keeps you in the public eye like controversy.
Everyone knows admiral is just a bid retard that needs to be ignored.

he is on record as not liking or caring about local performers. Right after criticising the music for 2007 cropover ad nauseum he proceeded to play after crop-over a lot of old stinking music from the u s a including funk songs and other songs that nobody listens to. He was taking up air space and ear space with junk instead of playing local music. Under my system of Goverment people like Admiral will either change or go to jail
