U Like Eating Too Much Conch
Did you see the headline in the Nation Newspaper:
”Bajans Eating up the Conch”
The article said that since Lil Rick start singing his “Conch” song Conch sales have gone up.
Rick’s chorus goes:
“You like eating too much conch”
“You like eating too much conch”
And people start eating more conch for truth then. Let’s look at this from two different perspectives.
#1. The fact that Bajans are eating more conch shows the power of the calypsonian. The power to influence motivate and make people eat! Calypsos – single handedly – probably make people eat more than any other genre of music.
Remember some years ago there was “Proper Pork” by Gillo and more people started to eat more proper pork (Do not ever eat pork that is not proper, it could bound yuh)
I already dealt with the eating effect of the original “sauce” song in my post entitled De Sauce vs. Deep Throat. You should read that. Now Rick is singing “Conch” and increasing sales of that delicacy. It shows the persuasive power of music; it can be used for good or bad. Is making people eat more good or bad? It depends on what they are eating.
#2. If Bajans are buying and eating the conch off of the shelves imagine what is happening other wise. I mean when ever a calypsonian sings a song people always argue that he is really singing about some thing else. That means that eating of that something else would go up too!
What am I speaking about? Conch of course. Persons who know how to prepare it would get more eating patronage. They say the key is how to prepare it before you serve it to be eaten.
Rick is singing about conch and Timmy is singing about sauce. That means conch eating up, sauce eating up. Men now have to pull more money out of their pockets to get some conch. Not only men eating but women are also eating conch too, that means it becomes a more competitive and expensive item all because of a calypso.
P.S: Lil Rick will be serving Conch at Bacchanal Time Vs the Best of Barbados at the Sir Garfield Sobers Complex on Wednesday 1st August 2007. All Conch Eaters are invited!
If during the reading of this blog there is any thing I might have written which might have incensed or offended you, GET OVER IT! There are many things I read and hear in the media on a daily basis that I don't like either. SO DEAL WITH IT! You are welcome to leave your comments though. Make sure and come back yuh hear !!!...
