Rihanna’s latest release Shut Up and Drive is a carbon copy of Bajan calypsonian Contone’s 2006 hit “My Car Brek Down”!Yes that is right! From the time I saw the Rihanna’s music video I recognized the similarity between the songs and you will too. The “Shut Up and Drive video” starts with Rihanna under the hood of a car that has obviously “broken down”. A similar theme to what contone was singing last year. If you listen to the song Shut Up and Drive you also hear an uncanny likeness to the song penned by “2006 Peoples Monarch” Contone.
Rihanna chorus is going “shut up and drive” which is pratically the same as Contone’s lyrics but instead of saying “brek down” she is saying the opposite which makes it just about the same. Rihanna might be able to fool the Americans and JayZ and them, but she caan fool we bajans.
I had Darron Grant, an experienced music producer listen to the songs to see if he could pick up the simalarity, he disagreed and said it sounded like two completely different songs. I realised then he was an idiot that was bewitched behind Rihanna and was part of the conspiracy to rob Contone.
Any maddman can hear It is a carbon copy.
Boyce Voice spoke to Contone to get his feelings on the matter
And heres his comment; “The thing bout it Mr Boyce is I don’t mind Rihanna ripping off my song cause I know them big international writers can’t write as good as me, but wha hurt me is that she din even give me a lil piece in de video, I could see my self “holding Rihanna dress easy” and any thing else she did want me to hold.”
The reason you are not seeing this story in the international press or the other blogs yet is that the other news people are not as fast as Boyce Voice.

her song doesn’t have anything to do wid contone song liten to the lyrics. she say she got a ride thats smoother than a limo so step inside her an ride her. contone song is about he girl leaving him when he car break down. there is no simularity. and don’t cause any scandel to that lil girl name she is doning good things for barbados it’s just the video starts in a fixer shop.the video producers started the video like that as a appeal to men cause who man aint want a sexy girl on a car wid tight nothings on talking about [Verse 1]

Allow me to interject! Darron has forbidden me from responding to your comments in my own comments section but in this case I must.
I would like to reiterate that the supposed Rihanna’s “Shut up and Drive” lyrics which Meshaka has painstakingly posted above are an exact copy of Contone lyrics “my car brek down”.
In fact when I first saw the lyrics above I thought they were Contone’s lyrics.
Meshaka is obviously one of those people who have been bewitched by Rihanna,you need to wake up and smell the engine oil girfriend!
If I were Contone I would go to Coscap and take legal action and either try to get a settlement of 2 million dollars or a date with Rihanna.
I stand by my statement dammit, I have not forgotten what Rihanna did to me in the exclusive interview that you can read in this blog, I still have nightmares about that incident and she has not phoned me to apologise yet!

Dont believe that Rihanna is talking about any car nuttin, she is talking about percolating
Anyhow to get serious I have said above, this Ripping Off thing is pretty big in Barbados and I should know because I have been ripped off several times. One example will suffice: I submitted a song called ‘Rise Up’ to a certain song contest and some time after a certain group in Barbados released a recording of a song with the same title and containing exact lines from my song.
I also know others who have been similarly affected. Years ago Roger Maynard had to go to the nation newspaper to claim a song that he had written

It is true that both songs are exactly same, in an opposite sort of way. Play any one in reverse while listening to the next forward, slow down contone a bit and you will hear. Peter is right; but in a backward sort of way.

I always thought you were ‘madd as hell’ but now you’ve proven it!
Rihanna’s ‘Shut up and drive’ is in no way similar to Contone’s drivel…I can’t think of anything else that’s decent to call that excuse for a song.
The problem is Bajans like a lot of foolishness when it comes to calypso at Crop Over and as a result, anything can pass for music when Crop Over comes around!
Good luck with your website but please try to plug ‘worthy’ music and not ‘utter shite’!

actually I agree that the songs are similar in that they are using cars to be metaphors to the sex act. Contone’s car brek down (his percolator won’t work correctly) and Paula left him while Rihanna will leave that guy if he won’t shut up and drive (won’t work his percolator correctly). See the similarity metaphorically speaking.
