Rush hour 3; Do You Have the Balls for it?

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker teamed back up recently for another blockbuster movie Rush Hour 3. The continuing adventures of an unlikely pairing of a Japanese Cop “Chan” and Black American “Tucker”. This time on location in Paris. This movie was quite funny, hilarious at times even. Not as great as Rush Hour 1 and 2 but still worth the price of a movie ticket.

How ever I would like to mention one scene in Rush hour 3 I found to be disturbing….

There is one scene where the Chan and Tucker cop characters tie a man to a chair in a back room and proceed to beat information out of him. Now a couple of years ago that would have been the actions of the villains. We have now come to the level where heroes do that too. Our “good guy” cops see nothing wrong and torturing a helpless man to extract information from him, while dropping wise cracks all the time. At one point in time they threatened to “squeeze his balls” if he didn’t start talking.

What sort of example does this set for the real life police when hero movie cops engage in these actions? Our Caribbean police are already accused of similar backroom interrogation tactics. Just recently I was reading in the Trinidad Express News where a suspect died while in custody of Trinidadian police. His relatives said that when they received his body part of the scrotum was damaged and a testicle missing. It did not sound funny at all. It sounded like an excruciatingly painful way for a man to die.

That is one of the reasons why the level of violence is at an unprecedented high. Its because of these barbaric scenes being touted as entertainment helping to desensitize us to the suffering of our fellow human beings. The next negative I retained from the movie is when a taxi driver says. “I want to know what it feels like to be like an American and kill some one for no reason”. And he got his wish too. Is that funny or what?

Don’t get me wrong, the movie is worth the price of a ticket popcorn and a hot dog. It’s just that some parts you got to have balls to watch…

What do you have to say about the atrocities visited on Buddhist monks in Burma – now Myanmar? If not for bloggers like you and me, no one would know! The latest development is the junta there cut off the internet to stop blogging or cell-phone camera or video being shipped out to CNN or BBC

Me and my dad had been great Jackie Chan fans ever since he first got to the screen (actually it was my dad who witnessed his first movie, lol)

His first movie was entitled “Snake In The Eagles Shadow“, that was his first time he starred as the leading main character.

I’ve also watched Drunken Master II and Police Story. They were classics.

I also think that the old Jackie Chan films are way better than the new ones that are coming out today. Perhaps because his recent films are slowly becoming americanized.
