Curse Privileges

How many times have you read on Boyce Voice about the ignorance the government has done, is doing or is about to do? How many times have we stated that government needed to be cursed and proceeded to curse them too, or called the NCF “nasty stinking liars”. And do you know what has happened? NOTHING!

Now when I say nothing I mean Nothing in a good way. I am highlighting the privilege that we Barbadians enjoy, where we can be openly critical of our government with out fear of victimization. Well aside from the stinking NCF (see, I did it again) you can pretty much speak your mind with out fear of reprisal.

myanmar-monks.jpgLook at what is happening in Yangon Myanmar with the government’s violent crack down on peacefully protesting monks. That is an example of the price some people pay for daring to speak out. In Myanmar Government forces have even cut off the internet to stop news of their brutalizing the monks from being broadcast to the world.

So in the midst of us complaining about government this and government that, we must also take time out to be thankful for the privileges we do have: A government which tolerates the voice of dissent, a government which tolerates the Voice of Boyce.
