Pampalam ‘07; I am an Actor
I am now an actor! I have already informed the members of Madd that I have elevated my self from the plebian comedian and I am now a real-real actor yuh idiot. For those of you who might not know you can see me performing as part of the cast of Pamaplam 2007 starting at the Queens college School auditorium on October 27th 2007. The sub title of Pampalam this year is “A pocketful O’ Politricks” and will be taking a look at social issues and politics from a humorous perspective.
This will be the 30th anniversary of Pampalam so you know it will be special. The cast includes talented Sade Leon Slinger, Eleanor Rice, Yolanda Holder, Janice Perryman, Angela Weithers Wendell Thomas and me aka Ali Singh. Special cameo appearances by Marvo Manning and Merle Niles who is also working behind the scenes.
The production is written produced and directed by Jeanette Layne Clarke, which by the way is the same “Janet” Madd recorded our first calypso about back in 1985. It is a real change of pace for me dropping my usual authoritative responsibilities and be involved in a production only as a performer, It is quite relaxing. Jeannette and Merle are dealing with all the production issues all I have to do is to remember my lines and speak them with “inflections”
In Pampalam my character Ali Singh gets to team up with partner “Mobert” in another installment of the popular “Partners in Profit”. It’s pretty damn hilarious, don’t want to give away too much of the plot so come and see when it opens on 27th October.
