From the Powerful to the Jobless

Prime Minister’s Office Bay Street

It is 11.12 pm and it’s the 15th January 2008 Election results night, I am sitting like the majority of Barbadians with my eyes glued to the television screen as the polling results are being reported.

As I sit here with my entertainment self, I am reminded of the fragility of ministerial political life, where you could go to sleep a holder one of the highest offices in the land and can wake up the next morning jobless.

On the other hand I am an entertainer tonight and tomorrow when I wake up I will still be an entertainer, just like I have been for the past 25 years. That’s why I have always had great difficulty grasping the concept of we the entertainment electorate expected to fear ministers.

The Election results are quite exciting; it’s the stuff good movie thrillers are made of. If it is nerve wracking for us watching the results, imagine the ex-ministers who must now go in tomorrow and clean out there desks. Well change that to today as it is now 12.05 am. Not only Ministers but also certain CEOs in Wanstead Terrace should start looking for a job as well. At this time it is now clear that the Democratic Labour Party is now the governing party and David Thompson is now our new Prime Minister.

Congratulations to the DLP from Boyce Voice!

    Congratulations Team DLP

Christmas was disrupted, people placed on edge
Owen needed to be dislodged, he was like and impaling wedge
Now thanks to God we can sleep peacefully
God has delivered us from his political tyranny
Right thinking Bajans started a new mandate
And voted to elect their DLP candidate
They demonstrated that with the 20 to 10 win
Usefulness had expired, the shelf life was gone for Owen
Laughter now adorns this Nation’s face
A fresh air envelops the entire place
The excellent campaigning by the DLP team
Ignited new hopes and happiness, we can now dream
Of a community with more love and caring
    Negativity surpassed with positive thinking
Simple charity between neighbors and together we
Take on progress and a true democracy
Exercising the strengths of each individual voice
Assured that individual’s have their own choice
May God Bless your persistence and bring more success
Draw a clear map along the Pathways to Progress
Lots of hard work is ahead but you’ll emerge supreme
Praise God for this Government of a DLP Team

It’s a good thing that the out going Ministers are all qualified people who know exactly where to go to find work. And if they weren’t the graduates from the OASIS Program will most definitely guide them. Check out Boyce Voice

    Job Opportunities

    Janitors needed at the QE
Over in the Pine more maids at CBC
Boys on the Block are fresh with advice
Oasis Program trained them to think NISE
    Parishes need more capable Newsies
    People who ensure newspaper deliveries
    Organizations non-governmental need some insight
Regular people who can advise them at night
The Island once had more jobs with better opportunity
Unemployment is now a scarce commodity
Now with the 7.5% rate, jobs are hard to get
I was looking for years and can’t find one yet
These outgoing Ministers might have better luck
I understand the Boys on the Blocks can find wuk
Everyone of them can show them where to go
So don’t cry! For the Bees it’s all about who you know
