Rhianna is in a class all her own. Is it fair that others dont stand a chance to win in the category coming up agains Ri Ri?? Kudos Ri but in all honesty and fairness, her songs and videos are superior to the other artistes and she should just be given seperate awards each year for her achievements.

What I would like to know is what is the Criteria for the nominations and then how the winners are selected. It seems a little off to me. Awards like the media award, How does Hurricane manage to win it every year and in my opinion, there are better people out there.

On the topic of Rhianna, I think that she should be excluded from the awards the next time around. She will always win the awards because she is out there, not necessarily because she is better but because she is on the international market.

Kudos to Philip Scantlebury, I see good things on the horizon for him. We have good talent in Barbados and I think we should push it to its fullest potential. Not everyone will get as lucky as Rhianna, but reach for the stars.

Kudos to Rubytech, Damian Marvay and Phillip Scantlebury…well done, well deserved. However, while I understand the need for everyone to be awarded publicly, I think the time has come for some awards to be presented “at a ceremony” before the actual event. The show was definitely too long. Start setting limits on speeches, etc. and have the show run like clockwork.

Hurricane deserves her award…the criteria for the Radio Personality of The Year is that the person does tremendous work with the Bajan Music and artists…who else would you vote for?…John Doe?…Peter Coppin?…These guys dont promote Bajan music!!!

  13. bashment baby Says:
    January 30th, 2008 at 6:41 am

I’ll add the John Doe does deserve his award ad the People’s Chouce for Deejay of the Year, because no one comes close to his level of popularity…Guys really we should give credit where it is due…

  14. Socalover Says:
    January 31st, 2008 at 1:30 pm

Bashment baby, If we are going down the line of working with bajan music, then Peter Coppin should be up there then, not only, playing but producing good barbadian music. But I guess to each his own. I am truly not impressed with Hurricane. Of course everybody has an opinion.

Question people: Are the BMA’s there to honour th best in bajan music or showcase bajan music to the rest of the world….causin…I don’t get the point of all the overseas invites and this talk about making it more international by bringing in Alicia Keys and Witney Huston. Then it’ll turn into another internationall concert and not an awards show….Also, Philip 7 over Kite or rock/alternative award? Please.

Congrats to Philip Scantlebury & Rhianna & Andrea King, the rest can go home and rest….pure rubbish if u ask me

  18. Marcus Says:
    February 2nd, 2008 at 2:03 pm

Since no one will ever win any categories that Rhianna competes. Why not just give her a lifetime achivement award and call it wolly.

Rihanna deserves every award, she is a Barbadian artist like all the others and should never be excluded from any awards here on the Island. It is time we accept and love her as our own and continue to support her in everything she does. Yes, there are talented people here on the Island who preform all over the world who did not get the opportunity to be signed by a top music label so I know there is a lot of jealousy floating around the music industry especially among some of the older female artists as far as this young lady is concern.

It is time we realize luck has nothing to do with Rihanna’s success, you can give two people $1 each and you’ll find one person spending it all and the other trying to make $100 more from it. Rihanna has everything the industry is looking for and also a very unique voice. This young lady is madly in demand in the music and fashion world and is being showered with tons of endorsements. She is definitely a force to be reckon with. That is what you call true media candy, they just love her.

We are all here for a purpose so go out there, find what you are good at and try to perfect it, maybe someday you’ll be where you want to be and i’ll be here representing you just like how I represent our home girl Rihanna. There are so many talented people here on the Island with beautiful voices but it takes a lot more than a beautiful singing voice to reach super stardom. Just food for thought. As a Barbadian woman I feel so proud to have a young lady with so much grace and class representing me. She makes us look good. Enough said on that subject.

I have no problem with international artist coming to our music awards, the more the merrier and more exposure for us because where the superstars go the paparazzi follow and the more we are seen by the world. It is the mind set of some Barbadian that keep them from moving forward, don’t look at it like we are being invaded by superstars but look at it as exposure for our talent. Looking forward to seeing more of my Caribbean people doing great things. I’m out.

    Unity is strength

    Calm down Skyblu,

Agreed our girl Rihanna deserves all the good things that are coming to her. But let’s be real, she has a world class team managing and promoting her. She has great people writing great songs for her excellent producers studios arrangers and, in short, people with all the international experience needed to ensure her talent is well channelled.

Are some people jealous? I’m sure. Have you never been jealous before? And who better to be jealous than a thriving superstar?

Anyway, enough of that. Nuff repec to Rihanna – keep shining!
