Support Rihanna;You Ungrateful Dogs

We are such a bunch of ungrateful dogs then…. I mean wunnah Bajans dat reading Boyce Voice right now. Let me tell you how rassole ungrateful we are…

Yuh got a Woman like Rihanna, nominated for 6 Grammy awards, allow me to reiterate, 6 GRAMMY AWARDSde woman up fuh then, and wunnah bout de place acting like it is nuthing.

All like now every single radio station in Barbados and our lone TV station should be celebrating and showing support with a video and audio Rihanna marketing blitz. Every street corner, every rum shop and every grocery store should be abuzz with conversation about our girl Rihanna, how she is going to take the Grammy’s by storm, our female “David” that will be “slaying” the United States “Goliath”.

All like now we should have a massive public party in Independence Square the City, with big wide screen TV’s showing the Grammy’s via satalite and having a big Rihanna music party while waiting for the results.

Celebrating when Rihanna wins and talking bout how great the American Grammy judging system is, or booing if she loses and cursing the Grammy judges and calling them stinking dogs.

I did hear one radio station doing Rihanna support ads,but one is not enough.

Ingrid from Krosfyah call me and told me she was going down to United States to support Rihanna but it was just her.

We should have a whole official Barbados contingent traveling to the U.S to support Rihanna, our Bajan girl that is taking the world by storm and putting us on the entertainment map.

But we are like what Admiral call the calypsonians back in 2004 “ungrateful” and what Boyce Voice is calling you in 2008 “dogs”.

Our Queen Rihanna looks so cool in picture then, she looks like she is giving us one of those looks women give you when you have done something wrong

Here’s a picture of Ingrid in Los Angeles U.S where she went down to support Rihanna, Ingrid is there with graphic artist Alywin who too this photo. Watch for Ingrid at in the Grammy coverage waving a Bajan Flag like Madd in support of Rihanna.

Watch for her in the TV coverage tonight, Ingrid will be keeping us up to date with reports on Boyce Voice

I agree 100% that Barbados should be rocking with “CELEBRATIONS” at this point….Here in Montreal the people have a ” BILLBOARD” with “Celine Dion”,even though she acts more American than French Canadian, but who am I to comment…..I live in Canada, but I still say “BAJANS, SHAME ON YOU!”…Talk to your POLITICIANS,and insist they do better than that…..Don’t let me have to call y’ll ” UNGREATFUL CATS” ” AH GONE”

Even CBC TV’s wording in their ad is weird. It says Rihanna is “up for 5 nominations”. Her nominations are indeed a fact and are published on the Grammy.com site. If anything she is up for 5 awards.

Can’t wait to watch the Grammy awards tonight. I’m keeping my fingers, toes and eyebrows cross for Riri. Go get those awards girl :) I am sooooooooooooo excited.

    Peace and love

It is all well to be excited about Rihanna, but what had me is the PEP column in the Weekend Nation it referred to her, along with Sir Garry and George Lamming as Barbadian geniuses!

No wonder Commissiong’s foray into elective politix did not do well, the plural of genius is genii; next bit…

Sir Garry is a genius in so far as cricketing and batting, all-rounding, etc. He is not a pro at pianistry or business or whatever.

But George Lamming (Who is yet to be knighted or honoured at 80, why - he like Cuba too much?) has many books published and has demonstrated his INGENUITY at expressing philosophy as it relates to Politics or Personal Ethics and/or Beliefs.

Therefore, what is Rihanna’s claim to genius? She is very SKILLED & TALENTED in singing and performing and her Marketing Posse are the true genii in guaranteeing her exposure is global. To say she is a genius along with a Boss Cricketer and a Fantastic Author is a far stretch.

Due to other commitments I missed the Grammys, but I am so proud of Rihanna. As Bajans we should all celebrate her and her success. Bajans always love to pull one another down. What other Bajan do you know ever won a Grammy? and at this age. No matter what people feel about her, Bajans all over the world should be celebrating. I am sure many of them were rooting for the Giants last Sunday and I am sure none of them know or ever saw close up any Giants person. Let us start giving our own the respect they have earned.
I hope the government, the BTA and the large companies with outside influence as well as local influence, will wake up and promote her big time. Same way they could pay other people who don’t look like her or even like the majority of us Bajans thousands of their dollars(they never get paid in Bajan dollars) to be in our ads, they should start paying people like Rihanna to promote Barbados.
I will certainly do my part and put in my two cents next weekend when decision makers are supposed to be in NY.
By the way Bajans, try and understand the industry in which she works. She is not her own boss and if she shows up in Barbados with body guards, don’t hate her. I am sure she would be happy to loose them but it is not her decision. She is her label’s ticket to bigger fame and FORTUNE…..just love her and hope that she invests her money wisely so she can enjoy it later.
    Ah Gone.

I repeat, Rihanna is indeed talented but to call her a genius is over the top - she got one award out of six, nice! We all are glad for her but look at Amy Winehouse who got five - she not only sings, she composes and can play piano. Rihanna is strictly voice!

Has anyone ever heard when Rihanna wrote a song? Ne-yo, who she has sung with, writes and plays instruments also!

This indicates a greater degree of talent. I am fully aware that this will draw a backlash but if Rihanna belches and lets go a drop of bile, does not automatically make it a pearl of wisdom as she is a Bajan overseas doing well, so don’t get your knickers in a knot, skyyblue!

Airborne, you need to go sit somewhere. Since you are such an “EXPERT”??? on Rihanna, show us what you have done with your life so far, just go back to your sorry little blog and bitch over there because that is all you do to anyone who achieves anything in life. Never let anyone’s achievements be your downfall. This Young lady is star, it does not matter if she got one Grammy out of six, the point is she has a Grammy and no one can take away from her. I’m happy for Amy winehouse, i’m sure England is celebrating. What are we doing for Rihanna? Airborne you need to stop putting down our local talent, If you have nothing good to say shut to hell up. There is a difference between constructive criticism and jealousy.

    Unity is strength

I was appalled at the low key way people in Barbados treated the Grammy Awards. This is one of the most talked about shows in the world and we had a Bajan performing at them. This is a remarkable achievement and worthy of note. But more so, Rihanna had been nominated for 6 Grammy Awards and went on to convert one. This is and should be the biggest day in Entertainment in Barbados. Where is our sense of patriotism? Rihanna, wherever you are, we love you too!

    Ungrateful Dogs

Umbrellas should have been rising in the street
National media should have given us a special treat
Girl Gone Wild hitting the world with a fury
Rihanna nominated to get a Grammy
Actually, any of six awards she’s in for a chance
This Bajan Gal got Hip Hop, Rap and one about Dance
Every Bajan, especially media people on radio and TV
For that time should have been promoting our Celebrity
Unfortunately it wasn’t so and this morning on radio
Local broadcaster didn’t even mention her in his intro
Despite her international plugs for Barbados constantly
Our Bajan media still don’t seem to like Rihanna Fenty
Girl, wherever you are, some of us are proud of you
So kudos and lots of love, be GOoD whatever you do!
    Also Congratulations Rihanna

    Congratulations to Rihanna!
I was very pleased to see that she won over some very seasoned entertainers!
I agree with the billboard at the airport notion, that has my vote. I do understand the point that Airbourne is making, although I wouldn’t say that she’s ’stickly voice’.
She can dance and she’s easy on the eyes too!. She has indeed been positioned for success.
While we are so proud of her and rightly so, I PRESUME that Airbourne is comparing her with the yardstick that is used to measure most if not all international artistes.

A Bajan performing at the Grammy Awards and copping one to put on the old bookcase!?
    Abso-bloody-lutely Marvelous!!!!!

Well that takes care of the Barbados Passport….now on to my British one

Big up my London Crew Massive….Good going Amy!!
(Was it just me or did anyone else think she was dancing like she wanted to go to the loo? ..lol.)

Sing Like No One is Listening!!

Peter, you are absolutely correct! Bajans are ‘ungrateful dogs’. They only find pleasure in pulling down their own every time; as a matter of fact, if they can’t say something bad about you, then they do not say anything.

Congrats Peter on your appointment. Is that a position to keep your ‘voice’ down? I don’t think so. This Government recognises people.

I actually know alot of Barbadians that support Rihanna. I suppose we are not as vocal as the ones who do not support her! However bad mouthing is unfortunately part of our “culture” and that is how it is. I am sure Rihanna herself engaged in some bad mouthing herself while she was here. I was hurt when she said she was going to stop supporting Barbados because up until that point I was a die hard Rihanna fan, blast the stupid people on the call in radio not the entire island! Lets not forget the others who went before her like the merrymen and krosfyah they too were ambassadors for Barbados!
So while we are throwing around the word ungrateful what about on her part? I’m sorry but, What about the free education she received while here! at leats that is how I felt when she said those things to the magazine because it meant she was not supporting me either and it means she is not supporting any of you here who profess to love her so much. However no one can deny her talent and success so I respect her as an artist, not so much as a barbadian
