    Congratulations Rihanna

Couldn’t get to bed, I wanted to see
Our Bajan girl when she won a Grammy
Nominated for six but one award is sufficient
Grammy Award, any, is the ultimate acknowledgement
Rihanna, I was there in spirit sitting with you
At every announced nomination, my heart jumped too
The excitement and anticipation overwhelmed me
Umbrella didn’t win Best Song, it wasn’t to be
Lots more disappointments jolted my apprehension
And finally an award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration
This caused me to spring to my feet
I was in glee and your award was the sweetest sweet
Only to be trumped by your great attitude
Nothing was more admirable through the entire interlude
Such a natural flow, I was touched by your thank you
Responses you made were great for your Grammy debut
I played no part in your award but I felt like I did
How you love me Barbados, you said, my celebrity kid
And though there may be some dissention on my shores
None of this matters, the Grammy is yours
Now you have written your name in History
Awarded at the 50th Anniversary with a Grammy

A special Tribute to Robyn Rihanna Fenty
    For her outstanding Achievement of
    Best Rap/Sung Collaboration
50th Anniversary of the Grammy Awards 2008

First thing – congrats to Rihanna! I scream and jump up and down like a poppet when she won and when she shouted out Barbados – I felt fussy enough!

Second thing – “as a Combermerian and Barbadian” Peter? Sigh… wunna gine be SO intolerable now – PM and a Grammy? save us…

Third thing – You know up to yesterday, I STILL here somebody say ‘well we still need to wait and see what Rihanna will do for Barbados’? I was so vex I decided to do a categorical list at http://caribbeanlionesse.blogspot.com . And I ent just talking bout shout-outs- sweet though they are. I mean real things that put money in people’s pockets. Feel free to add to it if you can think of any I missed!

Barbados..I Love You! We Got One!
    Bajan daughter of the soil
Awarded with a Grammy to uncoil
    Reluctance in local mentality
By winning one for herself she won one fah we
All the personal euphoria still she didn’t leave us out
Delighted fans all over the world heard her shout
On that night she exclaimed Barbados..We Got One!
Symbolizing to me we’ve only just begun
I read more in this though, much more
Love runs deep in our daughter, down to her core
Only a loving child bears no animosity
Veers from the easier path of enmity
Embraces her roots and salutes the past
Yells out in solidarity we, note we, got one at last
On that night I saw Rihanna’s sweet personality
Unveiled as she went to receive her Grammy
With natural candor she shout out her dad
Even though and in spite of the negativity they had
Got one? Barbados we got one and more than we know
One great superstar with a precious glow
This Gem of our shores as young as she may be
On that night demonstrated great maturity
Now maybe we at home in Barbados finally can
Encourage positive criticism of our most popular Bajan

I really cannot understand the mentality of Bajans who sit in judgement of this wonderful young lady.Isn’t Barbados a christian society? How can they criticize Rihanna and support others whose trade mark is shaking their behinds all over the place. I have been living in America for more than 25 years and I am so very happy when I see Rihanna or read about her. I am so very proud of her and I will continue to support her and pray that she will remain on the right path. May God bless her and her family. May God also bless those “haters”. I watched the grammys and it was a very proud moment when I heard her name called, and almost cried when she said”Barbados I love you, we got one”.Rihanna, we love you also and continue to excel in everything you do.
