K B Kleen Apologises

My beloved Barbados. I am a tried and true professional in the entertainment business for over 25 years.

Last night at the tribute to Rihanna (On Feb 21st 2008)I realize that some of my comments and actions may have offended some of you. Comments that may have been misinterpreted to be disrespectful of rank or position could have been unclear.

Let me state that I have the highest regard for the Right Hon. David Thompson, the Prime Minister and leader of our great Nation and, at any point, would do nothing to destroy the relationship we have developed since our school days at Combermere.

Last night, just after the PM’s arrival I may have called him David due to fact that I am so familiar with him as an individual. However, when it came to formal introductions, I did indeed refer to the Prime Minister with clear and proper protocol and regard.

At this time , let me seize the opportunity to apologize to Barbados, special guests and our new Ambassador, Rihanna and anyone I may have offended.

Kevin “KB Kleen” Hinds.

I don’t accept this apology. It sounds like he doesn’t think he did anything wrong saying that we misinterpreted what he was saying. It was very clear to everyone what he said. Also, he should have apologized to Rihanna and Chris Brown who got the brunt of his classless behaviour. He was a terrible emcee and he should stop being a coward and come out and apologize on national television.

i dont think that he should of said the things he said and behave the way he behave that was not call for and as an entertainer of 25 years he should know better and he always want 2 tell somebody something and look he aint no better i cry shame on you. :(

This kind of tasteless behavior must stop. The shameful thing about it is some people here on the Island who follow that kind of culture seem to think this kind of behavior is pleasing and acceptable in Barbados and the international world but it is not. Show some respect for yourself and others and realize what is fun for you might be death for someone else. That behavior is so wrong in so many ways when communicating with people from other circles Kevin, that is downright shameful and disrespectful.

Kevin is either a very insecure person who feels he has to behave like that to be accepted by others or thinks he is larger than life to feel people are just going to accept and love that disturbing kind of behavior because he is Kevin Hinds. Sorry to say, some of us just don’t care about names. Names are not important in life, it is how we treat others that determine who we are.

Next time leave your tent behavior for the tent.

    Peace and Love

It takes a lot to MC a show. To say impromptu things to keep the crowd interested between breaks. After rubbing should ers with a person for a long time, it’s hard to address your buddy in ways other than you have been accustomed. It is hard to say to one person that you apologize, far worse, to thousands. There is more to Kevin KB Kleen than comedy. He has more character than most people I know.

    K Be Clean

    Kevin apologized and I accept
But some Bajans can’t forgive him yet
Even when a man rolls with the blows
    Callers and bloggers can’t recompose
    Laughter is Kevin’s specialty
Entertaining over 25 years this society
And one mistake and he must be crucified
Now you want us believe Kevin’s apology isn’t bona fide

I for one do not really see the stress about kevin calling david “david” – as i was telling my coworkers it goes way back to cawmere days and dont get it twisted…..what i had a problem with was his constant stressing of the rihanna chris brown issue especially after the fact tht it was evident that rihanna was not so keen on the idea when kevin first started his spectacle…yes some may argue that bet and international press was present so it would have gotten out anyway..but he should have respected her wishes….undoubtedly peeved…….rihanna handled the situation with grace….we can only live and learn

In my opinion, MC K.B Kleen that apology is for de PM only, I aint see nuttin about you being sorry about your behavior of the way you handled rihanna and chris brown, further more, this apology should be made on national tv just as the inappropriate behavior was done on national tv.

like i said before, i would not even expect a scallywag from de city slums to get on so

that video is going to be on youtube and this will be a disgrace to us barbadians thanks to you,

i still believe you should apologize on national tv though, show the country how sorry you really are since you were so bold in behaving that way.

respect is due to even fools, that my mother always tell me

The fact that he called the PM David is no biggie to me. We were used to seeing Owen shopping in the supermarket, or talking and evening stroll, walking the ‘first dog’ lol.
Our shoulders rub with these kind of people daily and once they get ‘elevated’ to what ever position, we mean no disrespect, after all, we’ve been calling them by their first names for years.
No, I was not bothered by the ‘David’, because KB did address him as PM before and after he called him David.
    Rihanna and guest however.

Chris should have been left awe struck at the fact that our PM can be there like that without having a SWAT team on top SpeedBird house, the treasury building, Barrow or Nelson!!

FACT: Rihanna did feel ‘a way’. She shielded her face with her palm. A gesture of ’shame’
FACT: That video IS on youtube
FACT: Pictures ARE on popular celebrity gossip sites, stating Chris is her BOYFRIEND
FACT: Pictures WILL be in those American gossip mags…trust me

I agree that KB should take some of the blame for his behaviour on Thursday night, but I’m surprised that no one is calling for the organisers to apologize. They must of been some person in charge on that night who should have called KB onside and ask him to stop the line he was going down. If he did not stop then just take the mic. There was another MC there. I personally have not problem with him calling the PM David and i hope the PM did not have a problem with it either. When it came to the time for introductions he did introduce him in the correct manner. My beef is with the line he went down with Rihanna.

The organisers should have done something. In my opinion they are the ones that should be apologising.

Hope it’s ok if I copy what I posted over at BU, where I’ve been trying to defend KB for the last few days….

“Just listen to yourselves! You people are really something else…

Not one of you has a single thing to say about any of the really fine performances we saw (Arturo, Livvy, Shontelle, Kid Site, the gospel ensemble, et al).

All you can do is drone on and on about KB like a lot of old Moaning Mavises.

How lame. How petty. How insecure in your own identities you are.

You know what I think really vexes you? It’s that the foreign media were present. You’re all so anxious about what non-Bajans think of us, mortified that (as the guy above put it) we “were embarrassed as a nation on an international level”.

Such rubbish! Listen to me. I’ve talked to many, many people from abroad about this today, and – I swear on my kids’ lives – to a man (and woman) they agree with me: that it’s this grotesque over-reaction to KB that makes Barbados look ridiculous, not KB’s performance.

Let me spell it out for you once again:

This was like a massive family party; it wasn’t the State Opening of Parliament, for God’s sake!

The triumphant homecoming of a young Bajan pop star was being feted by her own people; it wasn’t the first Official Visit by President Obama!

And as for embarrassing Chris Brown….

People, grow up! Do you know who this young guy is? Have you listened to any of the lyrics of his songs?

Here’s a sample from Run It!, his first smash hit.

“One of them Brand new big boy toys
    I do big boy things
I make big boy noise cuz…
    I know what girls want…
    I know what they like
They wanna stay up , and party all night
    so bring a friend…”

Not exactly Irving Burgie, is it? Now don’t get me wrong, I like the youth and his music. He’s talented and focused. But talk of KB embarrassing him is just foolish. He’s not Sir Clifford Husbands!

And one last thing before I finish in connection with KB and PM Thompson.

A confident, grown-up person doesn’t have to get their panties in a twist all the time over matters of protocol. The fact that Thompson didn’t seem phased by being called ‘David’ (any more than former UK PM Blair minded being callled ‘Tony’) in what was clearly meant to be a relaxed, warm and familial setting speaks very highly of his own sense of self-esteem and status. It also speaks volumes to me that so few Bajans can grasp this.

Honestly, it’s not KB who should be ashamed today, but people like you posters here along with all the other Bajans who, when presented with an entirely positive, good-humoured, heart-warming, amazingly well-executed (produced in only 4 days!) and celebratory Bajan occasion, can only fret and whine about what the rest of the world is thinking of us…”

I DONT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH HIS BEING THE MC……BUT AS I WAS WATCHING THIS SHOW LIVE I KNEW HE WAS TALKING TOO MUCH.

Talking about things he shouldn’t be talking about and saying things with were not called for…the PM is the PM not David….no one calls president Bush GEORGE…or BUSH at the gala’s he goes to …even if they came through the ranks with him.

Saying the the PM was’lucky’ to have his wife on one side and Rihanna on the next was another no no and i told my sister that as soon as this joker said it..that was tactless and classless and made little of our PMs wife and her authority Aand imminence as first wife. YEA I LOVE THE BAJAN DIALECT BUT NOT AT FORMAL EVENTS LIKE THIS…..ANOTHER NO NO…This dialect is what we gathered from our native african dialect/accent and the European accent…..a hybrid of languages…yes speak it among ourselves but not internationally when intenational press are around..another NO NO.

Asking if Chris was her man is something i dont even wanna touch….that question alone should make sure he never MC’s anything other than his now boring comedy show…that was just stupid and rediculous as we all know Rihanna has carefully guarded who she’s dated for a while now.

What kevin and these people need to know is that all these types of shows international are so tailored that questions that are asked are revealed long before to the guess ans sometimes even a list of questions to ask is forwared to the host by the guess’ agent of rep.

Kevin you did wrong…made major errors and you should take until cropover to get over this mess…just keep low.

Sometimes I have difficulty understanding what Bajans ar are saying to me, and I’m a proud Bajan. I can’t write Bajan, read Bajan, Understand Bajan and Bajans, but I’m a proud Bajan, nonetheless. Unfortunately, I’m not always proud of Bajans, like when they don’t understand that it is time to put away dialect when specking to a wider cross section of countries.

    A Dialect

    A means of communicating quickly
Dialoguing with all in your proximity
I believe that if your neighbor can’t understand
Any verbiage spewing from your communication
Language would be change to be understood
Embellishment, tones and accents or anything that would
Cause people who listen to follow carefully
This is the reason to speak with languages universally

After painfully surviving the onslaught that was “Brass Tacks” on the radio the day after the tribute to Rihanna show & now reading some of the above comments, I am now totally convinced beyond any type of reasonable and rational doubt that not just Bajans but people living here in Barbados DON’T HAVE F*** ALL TO STUDY!!!!.
My God, they’re people just next door in Guyana being slaughtered by the dozen like animals but yet still we find time to get our panties tied up over how a M.C. hosted a show. The country came to an almost halt with the impending nation wide strike planned by the BWU but we cared more about the hair style of a new member of parliament. WTF? Are we that petty? Are we that small minded? And yes I said small minded because the type of things we tend to take on as national issues are merely our own little minds conjuring up some crap due to the fact that we’re soooooooooo bored.
I’ve said it many times before, if this country had a few psychos running around shooting up a school or two, we would be thinking differently. If our very lives were in jeopardy just because we showed some sort of allegiance to one political party or the other we would be a different people.
Bajans have for the longest time been living in a bubble of beautiful bliss & immense ignorance, and the day that is even remotely threatened we will instantly turn into a country of headless chickens running around.
It’s going to be quite interesting to see what’s the next bit of tripe that will ruffle the feathers of the nimrods I’m forced to call fellow Barbadians.
K.B. WE are COMBERMARIANS FIRST, anything else after. WE know that these people wait for ANY excuse to tear into someone who stumbles or falls in this country. But unlike them WE know how to get back up and walk taller than before. UP & ON my brother UP & ON!

it takes a big man to acknowledge his mistakes and move on……but a bigger seldom makes them……..so “ques_man” you can talk all u want about how “small minded” or what ever else you want to call bajans and what they think matters. The fact still remains that K.B was wrong for how he behaved on stage at a show which was more than likely shown in other countries. You talk about the other major stuff going on in other countries, but when a fellow Barbadian gets on stage and behaves and carried on like K.B did on national tv infront of all Barbados, to disrespect the newly appointed Prime Minister of Barbados, and the to embarass not only our own new rising star, but another star who knows nothing about our culture or society, that is carrying it too far. We here in barbados know K.B and how he is on stage, but that show was not the place for him to show his “Madd Entertainment” face. That was a time to dignified and show his “Bajan Hospitality” the one we as Bajans are so proud of. Cause we were celebrating something special, not only someting but someone special, a member of our society was given one of the world’s most prestigous awards, i mean she has done so much for Barbados. So for her to come home and be made so embarass infront of the world, Bajans and one of her collegues is most disturbing and there is a need for it to be discuss. So yes there are alot worst things going on in the world that we don’t acknowledge sometimes, cause we think there are of no concern to us. But at the sametime your friend K.B should be made to apologise for everything he did on stage that night. I mean don’t get me wrong K.B is a great MC no doubt about it, but that night was a night to bring out his best, but i think he brought out the wrong best, “best of Madd”, he should’ve left home that one.

  26. ques_man Says:
    February 27th, 2008 at 12:31 pm

I second, third, forth & fifth that idea but there is one small problem. The other dim witted part of society that thinks Peter Boyce, Madd Entertainment and by extension Bacchanal Time wants to take over & rule or destroy (depends on which twit you ask) the Crop Over festival will have 10 times as big a field day with that appointment than they did with poor K.B.
And don’t doubt the fact that he & the PM oops …. Prime Minister David Thompson are Combermerians won’t be the lead red-ant in their collective panties.

In a previous blog people were insistent that MC KB kleen should give a national apology. He has and you are still not satisfied, you say that an apology to Rihanna should have been included. All this for a girl who you criticized and looked down upon for the 2 years BEFORE she won a grammy? I am sad to say that I am truly ashamed of my people. Over 25 years of entertainment this man has given you and you’re ready to stone him for someone who you recently decided to put on a pedestal! I must say I’m very fond of both KB and Ri Ri, always have been and always will be. I love the clothes she wears and I love the foolishness he talks. Oh and you guys might not have noticed but the rumours about Chris Brown and Rihanna were going around long before that show infact statements were made no questions were asked. And why argue about Peter Boyce’s position? He already has it and you can’t change that…. If you don’t have anything better to think about buy a book (or a magazine lol)
