Before you get all excited and telephone Gabby with the news that Boyce say he gun curse he, the opening you see above are lyrics from Gabby’s own calypso “Who Gabby think he is”.
Which brings me to my point, Gabby seems to think he will be Cultural Ambassador forever. Anthony “Gabby” Carter is more than my friend, he gave Madd comedians our first big break performing in Battleground calypso tent when we had just left Combermere in 1982. I have a tremendous respect for Gabby; you need to read one of my first posts “What the ass is a cultural ambassador anyways?” where I lamented that Gabby was not given enough real power and authority to go with his prestigious title.
However, the Government has changed and protocol dictates that all ambassadors and boards of directors appointed by the previous administration make their resignations available to the new government. I read in the newspaper where ambassadors from New York, United Kingdom, Africa and Timbuktu have sent in their resignation letters. But not Gabby. He is maintaining his position and waiting to see what the new Minister will do.
So all the remarks wunna drop, saying that Gabby like he “switch sides” and how he sing pun de DLP celebration motorcade, even Kidsite throw a song punch at he at the Rihanna tribute show. But Gabby is not budging.
Lets vote on it Boyce Voicians. Do you think Gabby should relinquish the post of cultural ambassador as protocol dictates or were you so happy with his tenure you would like him to continue? VOTE NOW!

Who Gabby Tink He Is
Wind force blowing Gabby off course
He politicized and used the wrong source
Only now he is like a Mitt Romney flip flop
Gabby doesn’t want his ambassadorship to stop
A friend caught him recently
Being part of a motorcade for the DLP
But we know his loyalties for some time now
Yesterday though these loyalties he would disavow
Trying to ingratiate himself back with the DLP
I think he should remember his Flying Fish Diplomacy
Never be disloyal and to never sellout
Keep loyal to values and stop hopping about
Hoping to remain the country’s ambassador
Envoy for culture and maybe even wanting more
I love Gabby songs and enjoyed his performing ability
Spare me this political flip flopping, party hopping side of Gabby

Now hear my take on this situation and my real feelings.
I love Gabby…i will always love Gabby…he is a true calypsonian and respect due to his magnificent abilities as artistes par excellence.
Gabby’s political affiliations are his business. However when he carries it in the public domain he fans the ire of the general populace and he puts himself up as a target.Gabby should know that he would be atarget of calypsonians…Indeed if he was in Trinindad he would be targetted by over 100 calypsonians as was the case with Gypsy. But here in conservative passive frivolous Barbados only a handful would take the attack to him.
Someday I hope to write a book on Gabby and herald his history and controversial career.He has his faults but he is only human and sometimes he gets people angry with him as I sometimes do too. He is a LEGEND. That ain’ gine stop me from singing ’bout him as he knows what CALYPSO means moreso than any other artiste in Barbados. He should know that Sparrow and Melody said cruel things about one another and were great friends.
I respect Gabby as an artiste and love him as my friend BUT LOOK FOR ME AND OTHERS NOT TO SPARE HIM IN CALYPSO.
p.s : I looking for him to retaliate…this is gonna be fun.

I think it may be time for Gabby to get back to his ‘day job’ – that is being a calypsonian. Dust off the old pen, warm up the vocal cords, find a tent and get back in the fray. It is a bit undignified and painful to watch him still insisting he is cultural ambassador. He knows why he got the post. We know why he got the post. He knows we know why he got the post and we know he knows we know.
Get me?
There is no shame in him getting back into the calypso arena – in fact, it would be great – think of the numbers that would show up at the Stadium to see Gabby, Site and Bag in the finals again!

Let us now kill a fatted calf for the proverbial prodigal calypso son is returning.. It gine be cat pis an pepper. Expect the harnessed dragon tp unleash fire and fury left right and center. Question: Will Gabby’s fire light his conscience enough for him to see that flirtation with politics was both ill advised and misplaced. I have repeatedly witnessed the unfolding his genius. Few know that in three minutes, Gabby first wrote” Gimme Soca ” in his head without pen or paper while strumming in ‘guitar gibberish.’ Fewer know that in the seventies Gabby while in New York, one nitght took up his guitar and started to sing and two hours later he ahd composed more than thirty songs. It is a damm shame that we cannot purchase a recent Gabby CD, But that is another story. I hope that
hatred will not fuel his writing. If this happens, he may discover that his fury will bus his balloon. Of course , Kid Site and others will enjoy pricking it.
