Estwick is Gone!
Yesterday’s media headlines announced that Ian Estwick was no longer the top man at the NCF, of course Boyce Voice had already told you his ass was gone from every since.
Ex NCF CEO Estwick stated in the media he had nothing to say. Well allow Boyce Voice to say it for him.
The termination of Estwick brings an end to a five year reign of cultural victimisation and vindictiveness which had been unleashed on cultural industries during his tenure as CEO. There are two Estwick memories that have imbued themselves on me that I would like to relate to you in as concise a manner as I can.
Back in 2005, I was invited to a business lunch as the then President of the Barbados Association of Tent Managers at the British High Commission. The purpose was for cultural industry reps to network with visiting UK business people with a view to developing business opportunities.
Estwick attended as NCF CEO also representing our cultural industries and this is how he chose to do it. Over lunch, he proceeded to explain to this African gentleman based in the UK how in Barbados people in cultural industries consisted of persons who had “failed academically”,could do nothing else and therefore became entertainers..
That is how as CEO of NCF he chose to articulate on our behalf, that’s why his ass is gone!
I also vividly remember a meeting at NCF where Mr. Estwick as chairman blatantly ignored and refused to recognise my efforts to make contributions and participate in the discussions, he then dropped some remark about how he ignores people who oppose him publicly. That’s why the ass is gone….!?
Wait, I am sorry, did I say “The ass”? I profusely apologise I meant “his ass”. That’s why HIS ASS is gone!! OK? Don’t want to get my ass in trouble, me and my uneducated Cawmere self. That’s why my ass is still here!
I attended a meeting at government house yesterday where a fellow entertainer remarked to me after all the arrogant abuse that had been suffered by us under the previous CEO, he was now gone and we were still here…
Estwick’s chaotic NCF reign can be described in the words of Shakespeare as “a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury, signifying nothing…”
Or in the words of Boyce Voice, “His ass is gone!”
If during the reading of this blog there is any thing I might have written which might have incensed or offended you, GET OVER IT! There are many things I read and hear in the media on a daily basis that I don't like either. SO DEAL WITH IT! You are welcome to leave your comments though. Make sure and come back yuh hear !!!...

I hope this signals a new era for the NCF and not another set of fustrated artists and employees. Estwick was difficult to speak with and very rude. I wish I had been invited to that meeting of the British….. i wonder if any movement happened from those type of outreaches or if it was just fluff.
How many other chances have been missed by our artists to earn $
I would count them but …… my schooling was bad and I “failed academically”
ha ha

It is a very sad Barbados when some Barbadians can view people of “profession” as celebrities and artists as failures. Can’t wait to see a society where respect is shared equally among us.
Peace and love

That was indeed some amazing stuff from Estwick. But even by his same, warped, elitist logic it doesn’t hold up - does he really think Harrisonians like Adonijah, Kid Site and Rupee, Combermerians like the Madd crew (heck and Rihanna!), Lodge school fellas like the former Square One and a Foundation alumna like Alison Hinds to name a few are ‘academic failures’ who couldn’t do anything else with their lives? Even if you follow his elitist logic, I’m pretty sure he would agree those schools have a pretty low number of ‘academic failures’ and that those folks probably have a bariffle of certificates between them. It is unfortunate that someone in charge of culture actually held cultural practitioners in contempt.

There is news confirmed that was previously broken by Boyce Voice. Some of us was started to feel like it was somewhat misinformed. Well, Boyce Voice again proved to be a creditable source of information. Either that or this entertainment blog is now a mover of mountains. However it turns out, Boyce Voice is a must read. Check it out regularly
Ian Estwick is Gone
It was said earlier
And Boyce Voice was the initiator
Now all Bajans know
Estwick no longer runs the show
Shamefully he must walk away
The calypsonians have had their say
When they turned for a helping hand
Ian Estwick proved he wasn’t their man
Culture was hijacked by his committee
Kept there to reward his disloyalty
It’s great that now those who care
Should have a voice and a fair share
Great too that culture can be defined
Our culture is more than bump and wind
Now as outlined in social commentary
Everyone can help uplift this society

Thats pretty unprofessional to be representing an organization and go to a business lunch and say something like that in public. actually its downright disgraceful! even if he thought that way keep those thoughts in your head dont spew that drivel to others

Ian Estwick was a square peg in a round hole at the NCF.He brought his management style from a bank into a different environment. He is an example of the style of management which prevails in this country. People wonder why there is so much sick leave and absenteeism , check management.

If Estwick said those awlful things at that lunch he deserves what he has got.Your entertainers and that includes you Boyce need to be put on a pedestal not denigrated.I live in North England and one evening recently I was listening to a mainstream station catering to 18-35 year olds.I nearly had a heart attack ,you know why because they played Alison Hinds song Roll.Ragga Soca or whateveryou call it on English Radio in primetime…..unheard of.Unfortunately Barbados has more than its fair share of idiots like Estwick.Keep doing your thing one day I might hear Madd.
