COSCAP or BCI? I Could be wrong and I usually am

Boyce Voice mentioned Mr Antonio ” Boo” Rudder yesterday and as if on cue I looked in the newspaper and see him associated with an interesting entertainment development.
“Rudder heads new Copyright Group” stated the headline, the article announced a new copyright organization had been formed entitled the “Barbados Copyright Industry” (BCI).
The list of directors were given and the fact it had been incorporated since December 19th 2007.
The formation of this new copyright group makes interesting food for thought, most performers and song writers are already members of the long standing rights collection agency in Barbados COSCAP (Copyright Society of Composers Authors and Publishers Inc)

Does this new entity BCI compete against COSCAP?

Maybe COSCAP CEO Erica Smith and staff Gail and Paulette are quaking in their boots? (Not that I have seen them wearing boots that’s just an expression, I would like to see Erica in boots though those tall black ones that…. sorry I digress, lets get back to the point..)

This new agency BCI deals ONLY with the collection of reproductive rights as it pertains to books and other publications.
COSCAP is known for collection of music royalties but by virtue of the “authors and publishers” in their name I would assume maybe they collect for books too, of course “I could be wrong and I usually am” (Quote from COSCAP director Smokey Burke)
So poet khaidji should be looking to join up and collect some royalties on those excellent pieces he has written, Asiba writes some pretty long comments he could publish them as a book.
It also still means that maybe Boyce can join and benefit as I write, see what you are reading here…? That’s writing yuh idiot, therefore I can de deemed a writer.
Hence when I am finish here I will print off a couple stories from Boyce Voice staple them together  mek a book and bram! I joining up.
Question is as a writer which organization do I join, COSCAP or the new collection kid on the block BCI ?

Peter the Coordinator Part 2

”Lord come fuh yuh world do!”Peter Boyce working for the Government?” “Looka my crosses though, he sell out…”

I thought so at first when first approached by Mr Antonio “Boo” Rudder head of the now defunct Festival Events Bureau back in November 2007. “Boo” said it was an opportunity to contribute and participate in the planning of Crop Over from a national level.

My first impulse was to refuse as I did see it as restriction of my usual “anarchistic” role of representing the industry. Most of my colleagues however saw it differently, they stated it was an opportunity that I could now represent the industry from the “inside” making input into the decisions that would more benefit entertainment.

So I accepted, bearing in mind it was also an generating opportunity. When the government changed I was fortunate enough that the David Thompson administration also recognized my potential and maintained my participation, and I thank them for that.

I pledge the Boyce Voice will continue to operate as it has in the past addressing contentious issues which affect entertainment. If for some reason I seem to be lacking in my usual acerbic tone and you need to buse my ass on any pro government position I might articulate, that’s what comments are for…

Peter the Coordinator

Me in a serious coordinating mood, yuh idiot….

Guess who is coordinating NCF Cavalcades this year?
If you said Peter Alphonzo Boyce you would be right.
“What” you should exclaim almost shattering your computer screen, “Peter Boyce working for the NCF?? No Freaking Way!”

Well you are freaking wrong! Peter the Boyce through my events management company Supreme Events has been engaged to work with the National Cultural Foundation to make Cavalcades 2008 the best ever.
I have been working for the past few months planning, coordinating and meeting artistes and their management.
This year you will find that all the crowd pullers Lil Rick, Peter Ram, Captain Sawyer will be back on the Cavalcade stage.

Not only big names but you will also be seeing new talent being brought to the fore and exposed in a manner that will benefit young artistes.
Gone are the days when “the Cavalcades” were used to victimize artistes who certain ex CEOs did not like or as a threat to the existence of calypso tents.
Delivering a quality event with the acts you want to see will be the number one priority, Cavalcades 2008, its going to be Great!

Around this time you should be saying “hmm so Boyce working for the government now? So he sell out…”
Well I would like to curse your ass now but I am outta time…

Log on tomorrow when I will answer your questions and queries and if needed curse you royally…..

Boyce is going to coordinate…..

P.S; This is not another April Fool’s joke, though it sounds like it…

Ian Estwick to be Minister of Culture

It was announced yesterday that Mr Ian Estwick previous Chief Executive Officer of the National Cultural Foundation, effective from today 1st April would be appointed Minister of Culture replacing Mr Steve Blackette.

Prime Minister David Thompson stated that after all the good work that Estwick had done as NCF CEO it was only fitting he should be aptly rewarded for his sterling cultural contributions.
In fact Estwick had been removed from NCF with the objective of promoting him to this position in the first place.

Minister of Culture Estwick will be now have even more authority and responsibility for moving cultural industry forward to a new era of entrepreneurial commercialization that will benefit all.
Estwick stated he was looking forward to serving in his new Ministerial post and one of his first objectives will be to have Peter Boyce appointed as his Permanent Secretary (PS) which is what he feels Boyce deserves.
