Lady Rihanna; Making Barbados and Combermere Great

Rihanna Fenty continues to take the world by storm, bringing honor and credit to Barbados and Combermere School!

I know there are some people that don’t like to hear combermere but I will get back to that, let’s not digress.

Lady Fenty’s latest success is the winning two awards at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles last weekend,
Favorite Female Artiste in the soul/R&B category in addition to Favorite Female Artiste in Pop/Rock.

In February there were some persons who sought to cast aspersions on the act of government honoring Rihanna making her a Barbados Ambassador, since then her achievements continue to more than justify this title.

Even as we go into independence with Rihanna’s latest win we should be recognizing and celebrating her latest accolade as well.

Because of Rihanna I now see Barbados being mentioned in international web articles that would not have spit on us before.
Also I am seeing mention of Combermere as well, of course you know that was always a great school, but it is now being officially recongnised internationally as the school that Rihanna attended.
Do you hear Beyonce saying what school she attended or Alicia Keys? No! But you hear that Rihanna went to Combermere that is why we are so freaking great!

So Congrats to Lady Rihanna Fenty (and I use lady deliberately) on her latest international win and for continuing to bring credit to our nation.

Tomorrow I will be cursing American Media on Rihanna’s behalf, log on then!!
In the mean time I leave you with this clip of Rihanna perform hit ”Rehab” at the American Music Awards, click below…

Boyce is leaving your computer and looking to go in rehab….

Call me Pastor Boyce

I have seen the light! Soon brothers and sisters you will be referring to me as Pastor Peter Boyce !!

I have become convinced that we in the entertainment industry are in the wrong business, while we get on stage singing wuck up songs and telling nasty jokes for little or no rewards, I have noticed that church pastors have been preaching the good word of the lord reaping financial sweets and getting through licking.

When you look the newly refurbished “Power in the Blood” Church just completed in Tudor Bridge you will see what i mean. Feast your eyes on the fancy architecture and the massiveness of the structure, that’s got to be close to a million dollars in building, plus they own two other properties on the same stretch of road.

When was the last time you saw an entertainer make enough money to build an auditorium?
All the years our entertainers still renting venues from government and others, hoping they refurbish the Empire theatre so we could rent some more. That is why we need to see the light!

Entertainment promoters invest thousands of dollars into high risk shows trying to get people to come out.
Then when we do get an audience we got to pay vat and taxes.
Churches don’t have to advertise to get their congregation and the financial contributions they collect are tax and vat free.

You know another way the goodly men of the cloth get out? Women! That’s right, all those church ladies with problems who go to their pastors seeking counselling looking for a shoulder to cry on, their pastor gives them that comforting shoulder and other additional body parts too, soon he is pumping salvation into their souls.
Look how often salacious Pastors are in the news with some sex charge (will not call Jippy’s name) We entertainers must take a back seat to them, We need to see the light!

Don’t think that I am being bad minded and criticizing the church and priests; in fact I am admiring them.
That’s why I done with this wuckless singing  and joke telling, I am  turn over a new leaf and become Pastor Boyce. I have seen the light and you need to see it too…

Kingsley Thorne 2008 Hits and Miss Fashion Review part 2

Kingsley Thorne is at it again, as he was not cursed enough because of his first review he is man enough (shut up madman) to release a part 2 to his fashion list.

He made the mistake of stepping on Ian Bourne’s corn and is now being blasted in the Bajan Reporter blog see link below.

http://bajanreporter.blogspot.com/2008/11/barbadian-designer-thinks-two-lottery.html

Now Thorne would know the meaning of “let sleeping dogs lie” not that I am calling Bourne a dog or any thing, he would have to be a cat as that’s his favorite animal.

My PBoyce Half Hour made the grade which by the way is heard every Saturday Morning on Hott 95.3 FM at 9.30. You should tune in its quite hilarious.

With out any further ado heres part 2 of the Thorne List

Captain Sawyer; Well and Done!

Yesterday I visited calypsonian Captain Sawyer in the hospital and he is doing well.
Well as fine as he can be considering he is still in hospital.
In case you did not know Sawyer experienced severe chest pains while at the scene of a fire where his friend Chares Griffith’s house was burning.
Sawyer had to be rushed to the hospital to while his friend Charles who had been wheel chair bound subsequently succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

When I visited him yesterday Sawyer was physically ok but very much reflecting on what had transpired.
He was saddened not only by the passing of his friend but also the manner in which he had died.
Sawyer then made a definitive statement, he said because of the experience he had been through he was now giving his life to the lord and would no longer be singing calypso. He would not be singing with the gospel “Experience tent”, nor writing for anyone, he was just done!
Sawyer asked for me to make that announcement hence I am making it to you.
We at Boyce Voice would like to wish the best to Captain Sawyer we hope he gets better soon and we applaud his decision to make a positive change in his life.

Captain Sawyer will be missed by the calypso fraternity but what is our loss is the Lords gain.
Sawyer says he welcomes visitors and you can find him in ward C4 of the queen Elizabeth hospital.

A Pissy Story

Let’s deviate this morning and talk about something that is not entertaining, Men peeing!
Its getting my ass sick the amount of men you see on a daily basis, who that think nothing of taking their penises out and spraying urine all over the damn place.
All over Barbados you see men peeing behind trees, behind bushes and sometimes behind nothing; they just get out of their cars at the side of the road and let it rip… Somebody should let them know there is no “P” in A.B.C highway.
Some of them act like the have never heard of the term “going to the bathroom” it’s like when they want to go they just go.
Isn’t there a law against exposing yourself in public?  Well the Royal Barbados Police Force needs to enforce it.

I frighten to shake men hands now; do you notice that when the men are finish peeing they just get back in their cars and continue like nothing has happened? What ever happen to the “washing of hands” then they will come pushing their pissy hands for you to shake.

I use to once complain that how come you don’t see women peeing in public places too, exposing their private parts like the men do. I thought it would have been erotic, that was until I saw a woman doing it at out the Garrison Savannah some weeks ago, believe me it wasn’t pretty.
In New York you don’t see men peeing all over the place, is it because the men or biologically different there and can hold their pee? No! It’s because the police would throw your ass into jail and charge you for putting a hole in the ozone layer. Our Bajan Police must take a leaf out of their book and start locking up some urinating offenders so they can pee in the privacy of a jail cell.

Maybe its me, maybe I have an inferiority complex and feel I don’t have anything worthy of waving in public places. But those of you who feel you do bear in mind some of us don’t wish to see “it”.
I am yet to hear a woman say she saw a man peeing at the side of the road and was so impressed she give him her number.
So in pee summary; Men, Stop peeing all over the place! that is what bathrooms are for… speaking of which, I have to go…..

Barbados “Kite” Flying International

“Kite’s sound is the unlikely combination of elemental, spartan reggae and the moodiness of introspective/anthemic rock.”

In case you are wondering how the sound of a flying kite could get such a musical compliment that is because they are talking about our own barbadian band “Kite”.

I was pretty much unaware of the international impact the “kite” had been making but then you could say that confirms the iigrunt dog I am. In a conversation with Stephanie Chase she edified with knowledge of how the band’s music had been featured on television network shows and thing.

Lets go straight to the press release from the band Kite which would say it a lot better than igrunt me could… then click and check out their music video at the end….

Kite’s ‘Firefly’ Features on the CBS Primetime TV Show JERICHO
Hey guys we are thrilled that our song ‘Firefly’ continues to do us proud!
‘Firefly’ has been featured recently on CBS PRIMETIME SERIES ‘Jericho’. The show JERICHO is a drama about what happens in the aftermath of a nuclear explosion in the once peaceful town of Jericho. Visit www.cbs.com/primetime/jericho/ for more info on the show.
It started for Kite in 2005 with the placement on CBS Primetime TV Show ‘The Ghost Whisperer’, then, last Year, Canadian TV CBC featured ‘Up In The Air’ and ‘Wake Up’ ‘from our debut album on the TV series ‘Degrassi’. Firefly featured, once again, on the movie ‘The Stone Angel’ earlier this year. And now it’s ‘Firefly’ on the CBS Prime Time TV Show ‘Jericho’…
We want to thank all of you guys for believing in the songs and giving us so much support here in BIM!
Our 2 albums ‘Up In The Air’ and ‘Thirteen Degrees North’ are on sale island-wide and online. ‘Thirteen Degrees North’ is the first interactive CD released by a Bajan artist and contains not only our music, but the music video to ‘Firefly’, a photo gallery and a mini-documentary on the making of the album…plus links to our web site, where you can get listings of the local outlets for our CDs.
Cheers guys,
Brian and JJ

Untill next time, Go fly a “kite”

Barack Obama is now “The Man”

President Obama and first family

Some years ago I remember being on a plane coming back from the States and watching a movie about a black man becoming President of the United States.
The name of the movie if my memory serves me correctly was “The man”
it starred either James Earl Jones or Paul Winfield.
I searched and googled assiduously to find the movie so I can present it to you to illustrate my point but to no avail. I am convinced because of its subject matter there has been a strategic and deliberate effort to remove it from the records.

The plot of “The Man” was what happened when the President of the United States was shot and the vice who was black became the President.
Notice I said that the black man started out by being vice, not even in fiction it was not fathomable that a black man could be elected to be President of the United States.

As of this morning that has changed, from today the 5th of November 2008 the unthinkable, and perceived impossible has occurred, fiction has become fact and Barack Obama has become the 44th President of the United States of America.

What does this mean to black people in United Sates and throughout the world? I got a call from my friend Ian who said that blacks would now be getting better roles in movies. Will the incidents of Police officers shooting blacks unfairly in the U.S cease? Will Michael Jackson change back his skin colour?

Speculation on the future should not detract from the historical significance of this moment.
Let us rejoice that fact has become fiction and we now have a black President of the United States of America.
Barack Obama is now “The Man” !

* Since I wrote above post my friend Jdid in his comment identified that “The Man” was a 1972 movie starring James Earl Jones, some people would think that it was a display of igrunce I could not find the movie  while Jdid did, I know the truth is the FBI read my post and put back the movie info where it could be found, its a conspiracy, heres the poster to the movie… and in it Jones was secretary of state not Vice President…

Alfred Hitchcock Presents

It was intriguing and riveting, for thirty minutes I was glued to my chair awaiting the outcome of this suspenseful tale.

What am I blogging about? An Episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents which I was watching yesterday on the AMC classic cable channel.
The classic Alfred Hitchcock series are example that class is for ever while form is only temporary , these shows first aired in on television back in 1955 that was 53 years ago, I was not born yet and my mother would have been 10.
But yet the Alfred Hitchcock series have withstood the test of time and continue to be a regular staple on television through out the world.

What is unique about the series is  it featured some major names that some are now long gone, Joseph Cotton Vincent Price, Robert Redford, Burt Reynolds, William Shatner,Charles Bronson Dick Van Dyke to name a few. You also see some actors who became stars later in bit parts like Clint Eastwood etc.
What is also outstanding was the opening credits with the signature ‘funeral March” song and the dark humor dead pan delivery of Alfred Hitchcock himself as he did both the intro and the extro to the programs.

I am quite a fan of Hitchcock I find him inspirational not only because of his Director skills but also in the way he marketed himself.
He is a director who managed to be even better known than the movie stars he directed.
So for better or worse my name usually becomes a focal point of attention when I am involved in a production regardless of who else is involved.

Some years ago, I read 1300 pages of an Alfred Hitchcock biography so I am quite an expert on his life movies and the same series.
When next you see the old black and white show starts up and the larger than life Hitchcock steps in with is dead English delivery “Good Evening” keep tuned in, you will not regret it…

Click on below link for some humorous Hitchock intro and extros and the famous theme ….Until next time Good Night
