I find the nominees odd! Especially the category of Reggae Artiste of the year! What??
Female entertainer of the year. WHAT?
The criteria for the nominees must be wierd.
Good luck to all the nominees! Keep up the good music!

Im really curious to know how the enties above were selected for nomination though. No disrespect to any of the hard working individuals who’ve put in time an tremendous effort but how can you have Answar Gaskiin nominated for Writer of the Year yet none of his equally deserving efforts have been nominated in the varying categories?? “Nothing Sweeter” is perhaps the sweetest ragga-soca track out for 2008 Cropover…especially compared to those in the “New Artist of the Year” category and when will we FINALLY acknowledge the sweet music Miss TC has consistantly blessed us with over the years?? “I Just Wanna Dance” wasn’t on any CD that i’m aware of but could run circles round alot of the other songs for the season so i hope that something is done to give credit where it is definately overdue…c’mon people, wake up and start looking past “the names” and focus on the MUSIC!!!

I live in Toronto and truth be told…i can barely sing the National Anthem in French let alone write a song that would be of any use. If they refuse to acknowledge a newcomer with a sweet song for the season, they aren’t likely to give my raspy voice any airtime on the nation’s hottest station that only seems to play reggae ALL DAMN ASS DAY anyhow!! But seriously speaking though…all i can do is focus on the good works put forth by those deserving of play on my weekly internet show and filter out what i dont deem necessary to play, im not trying to change the world babes, i jus want good music to get recognition!!

Who comes up with the criteria to be nominated for the BMA’s? In the reggae section there are only 3 nominations as opposed to 5 in most of the other sections, how come? Did they run out of reggae artists in Barbados? As far as I recall the only Barbadian reggae artist to crack the Cross Caribbean Top 30 (number 17) this year (or ever actually) is RED STAR LION. RED STAR performed at reggae on the hill and opened countless reggae shows including Queen Ifrica and Junior Kelly among others. I can only guess it’s personal…

It is interesting to see people bashing the nomination process yet have not done the research to find out how it was done. I was there at the nomination process, which by the way was open to anyone who wanted to view but they just could not vote. And the members of coscap that were there nominated the artist in the different groups.
To D’Wonderboy – Very interesting observation and very true. Answar deserved a nomination for both his song and as a new artist
To iChrish – I guess it’s unfortunate that none of the members there remembered Red Star Lion, maybe his management needs to do more work getting people to remember him because his name never came up. And I think he was on the chart with an old song. David on the other hand had a long list of commendations read to the committee about him because he has been doing loads of work internationally and a video that broke internationally. Was in England for the BTA Chelsea show. He has great PR that works for him too.
Buggy speaks for himself because he is the first reggae artist to have a major collaboration with an international reggae artist and has been consistent over the years and opened more shows last year than Red Star Lion. He in my opinion is the man to watch, he is opening doors man. I even hear that he is in Jamaica now
Seth, well he just had supporters there who nominated him. His work I am not so sure of, I heard something about an album but nothing to date.
No Name – Yes I do agree that there is a certain amount of bias in this whole thing. They NEED to revamp the whole nominations process and make it very transparent!

Lie lie……. Red Star Lion open de most reggae shows in Barbados last year! I went to all! He was absent from the last one with Beres and Baby Cham, which was after the nominations! He was the last person pun every show after de summer. Get your facts right, before you spread dem as gospel Sam. He did the same the year before and David Kirton had pure old songs and still get nominate!
So lie lie lie, excuse, excuse, excuse. Deal wid facts. So if Red Star was seen the most and last in all the line ups, then that means your recognition of any singer has nothing to do with reality. He headline the Barbados Music Festival too with an international act there. A big group from England. And Chelsea is a rubbish show that grannys go to. Why not give Eddy Grant the award. David’s work came out around Electric Avenue no? One thing I can agree with is his management should not have let it happen,if as you say: They can make sure the people nominating “REMEMBER” to nominate him. So the award is given to the person with the slickest management ?…..not the best singer? I dare any of you all to go to any live concert and see what really happens in the music scene. Not only reggae, but all the genres, so we can see who are the gimics out there. I understand your point for Buggy, but ya can’t bring Kirton round Red Star nor Seth Billy. In fact no one else period can decide to compare.
So iChrish I agree with you.

Barbados Music Awards aka Bias Music Awards seems to be run by people who only look out for their monetary gain and don’t care about artists who are good at what they do. If I were an artiste I wouldn’t accept any awards not from such a crooked environment. You can see how crooked it is at appealling for fame as every international act that performs there gets a lifetime acheivement award to butter them up to spread the word on the lame show. Seems like a disgrace the way they carry on artists, the youth hardly get any awards, people with very old songs get awards, some artists get overlooked, mostly Timeless and South Central Management Artists get nominated. The youth that are really good at songs can’t afford to record to really give the show good competition but it wouldn’t really matter cause every new industry that arises in Barbados is greedily controlled by those who can use it while those who can’t suffer… There’s so much I can write on this topic its a sin!!! No one really knows the nomination process because what they usually tell us is nothing but lies. Its SCANDALOUS the way the whole show operates.
And of course we know Rihanna, Shontelle, Hal Linton, Livvi Franc and Jaicko Lawrence will always will entertainer of the year and the award for the most records sold, you can’t compare an artiste that is GOBAL with an artiste that is mostly LOCAL with few international gigs. THIS IS LUNACY!!! this could suck pot salt

how do you think i feel …i have been nominated, and i am happy that someone took the time out to even nominate me, but the music industry here needs more stimuating…i thought that the BMA’s would do just that, so i said i would give it five years…well time has gone by and other than people coming from far to sign us , there is no motion of music activity….my father got a 2006 cornerstone award…needless to say they gave us the wrong one which was the right one cause they gave us a 2006 producers award..and we sure deserve it…we produce everything, from music to clothing to jewelry to paintings… I would love the opportunity to perform…but things are so political in the music world it is not funny..i will still support it..because like everything else..eventually good conquers all….it is a good idea, and one day it would not be soooo…it is who you ae and who you know…..
