Royal Barbados Police Force Making my Ass Sick

As a Barbadian, I am ashamed and appalled at the actions of the Royal Barbados Police Force as it relates to the imprisonment and subsequent charging of reporters Cherie Pitt and Jimmy Gittens for attempting to execute their journalistic duties yesterday.

It sickens my ass when I see officers who are supposed to be charged with the fiduciary responsibility of upholding the law taking that same authority and using it against citizens who are going about their law abiding duties.

It sickens my ass when I see when I look in today’s newspaper and see a picture of a big burly male Police Officer shoving female reporter Cherie Pitt for attempting to take a picture of a man that has been accused for being a drug dealer.
What message is being sent by the Police who are supposed to be protecting our women from domestic violence?
Is the legal authority of the Royal Barbados Police Force to be used to protect officers accused of drug activity?

I am appalled that the Police should behave in such a disgusting and disreputable manner and then have the audacity to charge Jimmy and Cherie for obstructing justice. It should be the police who should be charged for obstructing the journalists and assaulting Cherie Pitt.

It sickens me when I read of the limp and historically proven impotent words of Police Commissioner Darwin Dottin promising a full investigation into the matter.

The question is who guards the guards?
This incident more than ever provides an example of the need to have an external authority to investigate and have the power to take action against Police officers who abuse their legal authority.

The action of the Police force in this matter reeks of the Gestapo tactics which takes place in Zimbabwe and other oppressive dictatorships around the world.
It is our duty as right thinking Barbadians to pay attention and speak out against this blatant example of the Police making a mockery of justice in a most sickening and contemptuous way.

It is a proven fact that oppression of a society usually starts with intimidation of the press then it’s only a matter of time before they come for you…

I leave you with this famous quote…

“In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;
And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up.”

    I am ashamed at the way Barbadians think of the Police who work hard and get unfaired and insulted all the time. It sickens my ass to see the way this know nothing discredits the force in such a manner not knowing the circumstances surrounding this incident.
    Barbadians only judge because they are on the outside looking in but it’s totally different on the inside, thy do not know what the police face on a day to dat basis. They have to respond to some of the worst things putting thier lives at risk , the things a normal Barbadian does’nt have to do. I would like Barbadians to open thier eyes to what is really going onand stop criticising the police who work so long and hard in Barbados.

    It is very easy to stand on the side line and stated that the Royal Barbados Police Force make your ass sick, my friend do you know how hard it is to maintain the public safety. I am not defending police misconduct, but you know as youdo that in our job sometime we take short cuts to get that job done, what make a police job different. You need to put on the uniform one day and i am sure that you would have a different opinion and respect for the men and women who put they lives on the line day and night to ensure your safety.

    Peter you really need to find some thing to do. How dare u speak about the men and women of the Royal Barbados Police Force like you are Sir Robert Peel. Oh shite i don’t even think you know who that is. Any how they are some journalist in this country that abuse their journalistic powers. You need to remember that without the Police there is no peace. This country has the lowest crime rate in the Caribbean.Who should you thank for that? Cherie Pit?No it is the members of the Police Force who without notice work like dogs in buildings that are as old as the force itself. Who have to sleep in their cars at night when given “down time”, Mr Boyce you need to realise that not only you have an opinion Policemen who read ure shit have opinions too. i hope your house isnt broken into, i think you wud have to call Cherie Pit to investigate it. Always remember that your tongue is one of the most dangerous weapons god gave you and yours is worst than an Atom Bomb.

    Oh and by the way it is obstructing a member of the force in the execution of his or her duty not obstructing justice.
