The Mighty Gabby China Controversy

Why was the Mighty Gabby left out of the cultural delegation which was sent down to China by the National Cultural Foundation?
There has been much talk and speculation about this so Boyce Voice can speculate to once it dosnt cost me my shirt.
The Mighty Gabby is one of the most well rounded entertainers we have in this country, who is proficient as a singer producing calypso evergreens like “Jack” “Boots” “Hit It” the classic “Calypso”, so much hits he has produced as Lil Rick would say “I caan call all”. I have to call “Emmerton” though that haunting tribute to his home town.
He is a man who can dispense with a backing band pick up his box guitar and belt out folk classics like “Bridgetown” and did u ever hear Gabby hit the last note of Guava in this song and hold it, the man stretches it for ever, Guaaaaaaaaaaaaavvvvvvvaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…
Like for 5 mins then, the man can really sing.
Gabby has also known to take to the stage and display thespian skills he even once acted as a politician.
And after all that, he is the 2010 Pic o De Crop Calypso King of Barbados.
So if there were only sending one entertainer down to China, it probably should be Gabby.
Some have said that its because of the alleged altercation involving Gabby which took place at Cohbblopot that resulted in Admiral Nelson losing his shirt.
You know what? that makes Gabby an even better choice, I have watched Kung Fu movies produced in China for years, fighting there is seen as an artform, using different styles and techniques, Snake and Crane and Dragon Fist, Gabby could show them the Bajan “lose yuh shirt” technique. ok then.
So Boyce Voice agrees with what was said by Adonijah, it is a major diss to Gabby that he is not part of that delegation being sent down to China, the Cultural authorities that made that decision need to go and come again, they best be careful somebody don’t meet them some where and drag their shirt off, or their jacket!

Boyce is leaving the building with his shirt intact….

I believe that Gabby was left out of this contingent because of the incident which happened between him & Admiral. We all know that Gabby is a brilliant song writer, singer & entertainer. His music will go down in history & will live on far longer after Gabby leaves this earth. Gabby also helped to put Barbados on the map & promoted us in countries like the US etc.
However, his behavior leaves much to be desired. Daily, we read in the papers about the behavior of our youth & how they are getting violent. This present Government is working hard to promote positive behaviors & attitudes by encouraging behaviors that merit such. I see Gabby as an Ambassador of Barbados & he worked very hard to earn this title, no one threw it at him, this man worked hard to get it, but his recent conduct & the fact that it drew so much public attention is disappointing. Gabby never came out & apologized for his conduct either. I believe him being left out was the right decision. If he was included, I think this would have sent the wrong message to our youth & the people of Barbados. It is unfortunate that our National Calypso King could not be included, but he brought it on himself.

It is true that Gabby as an Embassador should of walked
away from the situation. He has to learn to accept some
point of views from others whether he likes it or not. I know
some things said can be hurtful, but you have been in the
business too long not to know that. Being the bigger man that
you are you should not have acted like that. You owe Admiral
an apology, and the sooner the better. You know Barbados does not
like to be in news negatively. We are still very proud people.
Despite all of the above. I still think that Barbados and the
NCF should of swallowed their Pride and still send ” The Barbados
Ambassador to represent in China. Some may not like what I say
either, but they have to “Rip Off They Own Shirt” cause I too far
I outta hey! See wanna! Jewel Jones ( Montreal)

Ideally he should have been included given that he is the reigning Calypso Monarch and given his outstanding repertoire of calypso and folk songs over the years. In terms of the incident with the Admiral, I carry no torches for anyone in the entertainment industry (you guys should know that from my “On Stage with Dave” days) but Gabby has been very insulting towards people in the entertainment business over the years. In fact, I was surprised to see him back in competition after he referred to his fellow performers as “donkeys” in 1993, and in 2003 he composed a song for Ian Webster that was highly critical of the Admiral entitled “I Know Dat”. Who was the initial aggressor in this case? I guess the courts will determine that if it goes that route.

Turning the Other Cheek only goes so far.Admiral is an aggravation fellow who thinks he is more than he is, and that his word should be the law. That is why he lost his shirt.

That incident had nothing to do with Gabby not going to China,Remember he switched Sides!!!, same reason for TC at least she was told that up front by a Govt.DLP’er

    What goes around,Comes around
