Keeping Eye on Chris Brown and Rihanna

They say a picture is worth a thousands words, so what are the millions these pictures are saying?

Our Poll asked, Is Chris Brown good enough for Rihanna? 29 votes (36%) people said yes, 5 (6%) said no, not sure 6 votes (8%) said not sure and a massive 40 votes (50%) said they don’t give a Rat’s ass!

Well you should care dammit! the rest of the world does, I think we need to find out exactly what are Chris Brown’s intentions towards Rihanna Fenty?

Does he plan to change her last name?

Lets take a Boyce Voice look at some pictures which were taken of the couple at various places around the world.

rihanna-and-chris-red-tshirt-pictures.jpg

Here is Chris and Rihanna, do they make a cute couple? I don’t know you tell me, if Rihanna were in the picture alone that could have worked for me….

rihanna-an-chris-cell-phone.jpg

What is Chris telling Rihanna here, is he showing her how his phone works? I don’t think Rihanna cares.

Or maybe Rihanna is asking about that text he just got, and he is giving an explanation

rihanna-and-chis-at-night-club.jpg

Its pretty late to have Rihanna out at a night club ,

chris-brown-pooling-rihanna-dating.jpg

Rihanna cannot even take a dip with out Chris butting in, he is pretty smitten or as bajans say, Bewitched!

chris-brown-and-ingrid.jpg

Looks like our own Ingrid has her sights on Chris, guess Asiba will not be happy about this, If Rihanna is going to be horned at least its by a bajan…

This Jennifer girl here also looks pretty close to Chris, will do a lick mout lou thing and send this photo to Rihanna and end the happy union..

Hail PM David; Giving Us the Opportunity

“Why are we allowing our young event planners and tent managers to hit a glass ceiling because government wants to manage Crop Over events…
When we can contract them out and demand what we want in return and also earn something from them and give them the opportunity to be involved in large event management.
we need to give those persons with ideas in our cultural industries an opportunity to execute them”

Those are the words of Prime Minister David Thompson when he debated in parliament last week, they lifted the spirits of this event planner and tent manager aka P.Boyce, and indeed all of cultural industries should rejoice and embrace the PM’s comments.

Finally a Prime Minister who speaks of truly developing the industry and creating opportunities for us instead if the flawed exploitive policy which was transmitted from the previous administration.

I am not saying so just because government has changed, I have expounded this criticism of the BLP government several times in this blog when they were in power.
That’s one of the reasons why Boyce or Madd Entertainment was never given work from the previous Government and why our entrepreneurial efforts to do our own projects i.e. “Euphoria” were always met with opposition from the authorities.

I have always remembered ex PM Arthur making the statement at a consultation I attended, “there is nothing wrong with the government being entrepreneurial!” indicating how it was the prime objective of the government to make money “off” of the cultural industries.
In contrast to that flawed Arthur statement, we should be elated to hear the words of PM David speaking of removing the “glass ceiling” that stood in our way, now giving entertainment entrepreneurs the opportunity not only to make a tangible contribution to our national festival Crop Over also but to benefit from that contribution.

Anticipating Macbeth

macbeth-play-poster.jpg

I am really looking forward to the Gale Theatre of London and Barbados production of Macbeth opening next month, like Lil Rick I “cann wait”.

From the time I studied Macbeth at Combermere School it was one of my favorite books.
I started out forcing my self to like Macbeth because I needed it to pass my CXC exam and ended up loving it.
So much that since I left school I have read it several times.

I love the story of the rise Macbeth and the part Lady Macbeth played in his quest to be king and his ultimate demise, there is a lesson to be learned in this play for each of us.

When you hear me expounding quotes like “there’s no art to find the mind’s construction in the face” and “life is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury” people mistake me for being intelligent and say “ooh so you read Shakespeare” the truth is I have only read one book, I just make good use of it.

The Macbeth production will feature an impressive and diverse line up of stars Alison Sealy Smith, Varia Williams, Levi King, Jherad Allyene, Anderson Armstrong, Patrick Foster and top British actor Peter Temple as Macbeth.
The thought of seeing a quality production with these local thespians* bring the “political thriller” Macbeth to life at the Frank Collymore Hall next month, fills me with great anticipation…

I Cann Wait, Cann Wait, Cann Wait!”

(Lyrics compliments Lil Rick)

*thespian; fancy word actors become when they start to appear in big up productions at Frank Collymore Hall, its like the differnce between a “movie” and a “film”

All That is Not Jazz

The Plymouth Jazz festival is coming up on 25th April in Tobago, looks like an event not to be missed.

Featuring major acts like Rod Stewart, Shakira, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Peabo Bryson, En Vouge, James Ingram and Steel Pulse.
Whoa, that’s quite a line up!
My first question, what do any of those above mentioned artistes have to do with Jazz?

rod-stewart.jpg

Rod Stewart with his “if you want my body and you think I am sexy” no jazz there…

shakira.jpg

I love to see Shakira shaking those hips of hers while she is singing but she don’t do Jazz.

whitney-houston.jpg
Whitney Houston belting out how I am all the man she will ever need, but no freaking jazz there either.
I challenge you to identify one of those acts that are even remotely connected to Jazz.
Is it that promoters are “selling out” by not booking jazz purists in order to attract more patrons?
At least when Chris Harper of Notes to Note puts on his Jazz events at the Plantations, he features “real” Jazz acts, and so does Gilbert Rowe with our Barbados Jazz Festival.

The next question I would ask is why do they call an event such as this a “Jazz Festival”?
When you to come to Bacchanal Time calypso tent don’t you expect to hear calypso? So when you go to a jazz festival should you not hear jazz?
If you will not be hearing Jazz not even once, why not change the name to more accurately reflect the musical fare offered,So it should be the “Tobago International Music Festival” then every thing would be covered, including Shakira shaking those hips!

The Incredible Make up of Lia Gajadhar

I always keep my promises except for when I don’t.
Last week I mentioned how lia deserved her own write up, and here it is.

lia-cropped-pic.jpg

                                    This is Lia

I first met Lia Gajadhar back in 2004 when Madd was working on a dance idea to the song “Hard Ears”.
It came to me that we could use an idea similar to “Thriller” with ghouls dancing with our lead singer Eric Lewis and choreographer Trevor Priddie recommended Lia and told me she was good, just returned from studying make up in the States.

So Lia came to the Madd office and told her I wanted her to make up dead people to dance with Eric, so she asked exactly how intense to I want them to be as she can do some pretty gruesome stuff.
And I was saying to my self “yeah right” who is this lil girl claiming she can do make up gross people out?”
Well I could not have been more wrong, look at this picture…

ghouls-and-eric.jpg

Here is Eric with the Trevor Priddie and his dancers made up by Lia, she did some make up that was so horrific that patrons actually scampered from the dancers in horror when they went into the audience.
Even Eric’s own daughters became afraid of him after seeing him performing with the “duppies”.

ghoul-sitting.jpg

Lia used a technique where she started with one level of horror make up effects that intensified as the season progressed, so you ended up with the dancers looking like accident victims with chunks of flesh hanging from their body.

ghouls-lia-doing-make-up.jpg

I remember once being back stage when lia was finished working on the “dead people” and they looked like bodies that had started to decompose. “It was freaked me out and I had to leave. It reminded me of seeing Ingrid with out make up once.

ghouls-and-lia.jpg

Because of the excellent make up effects from Lia and effective choreography by Trevor Priddie and his dancers “Hard Ears” became one of the most effective live presentations Madd has ever had in Bacchanal Time calypso tent, my only regret was that I was in it as an undertaker and didn’t get to sit in the audience and enjoy the spectacle of it.

lia-and-alison.jpg

Lia making up Soca Queen Alison Hinds

We are always talking about the front line performers and not enough on the talented people behind the scenes, Lia Gajadhar is one of those people.
The ultimate testimony to Lia’s talent how ever is what she did with Ingrid Holder, a make up person that can make Ingrid look beautiful has got to be good!

Boyce is leaving the computer before Ingrid finds me ….

Who Gives a Rat’s Ass?!

jennifer-lopez-nyc-babies-birth.jpg

I am often in a quandary when I read the drivel which masquerades as entertainment news which pretty much equates to just old fashion “lick mout” gossip.
Am I suppose to care who Brad Pitt is going out with?
Or that Jennifer Lopez is having twins? whoopie!
or that Paris Hilton has new man?
I mean, who gives a Rats Ass?!…

britney-spears-dance-after-show-freaky-pic.jpg

Britney checking into rehab or out, so many times we have lost count

And the latest news now out, Am I suppose to care that Britney spears has lost her child visitation rights?
Or how much times she has been in rehab and how her father is now taking care of her again?
Who gives a rat’s ass…!

I would like some one to explain to me why I should care,
When I read entertainment news I like to read about the box office business generated by a movie or the behind the scenes of the making of the movie, not who the star is bonking might be bonking or is about to bonk.
If that is what you are interests you, you need to get a life!
Am I suppose to care who Rihanna is going out with?
Or that she and Chris Brown are supposed to be engaged? …
……….Wait a minute, I do care about that!

If our Rihanna is getting hitched we need to know about it so we can approve it, I mean is Chris Brown good enough for our Rihanna? (Darron will put up a poll that will allow you to vote on that soon)

But when it comes to the other celebrities, who gives a rat’s ass?!

“8 Cent” Ronnie Morris CD Now Out

ronnie-morris-cd-cover-2008-email.jpg

Hello People, Today we will take a break from cussing and check out this new CD that has recently been released, Ronnie Morris sent me this photo and media write up which I will now publish for your entertainment edification.

My comments on above picture; what’s with the shirt off thing Ronnie? do you realise you do not have any muscles? It might help that when you go for a shirtless look like this that you have some muscularity within the vicinity, example look at this picture of 50 cents…

50-cent-pictures-75.jpg

See the difference? This is how you should look when you take your shirt off Ronnie, so as it relates to muscles if we were comparing you to 50 cents, we would have to call you 8 cents Ronnie!

While he might be 8 cents in muscularity, Ronnie is rich as it relates to talent, here is his overview of his CD Album which is now out, watch for an audio release on Boyce Voice soon..

“Ronnie Morris’ self-titled 6-track album is officially in stores islandwide! The album boasts new material from the young singer, including the Deepu-Panjwani-produced “More”, a lush remake of the DeBarge classic “In A Special Way” which he performed at the 2008 Barbados Music Awards, and the Brad Griffith and Sebastian Llegall-produced reggae scorcher “Send Me A Love”, which is sure to ignite regional radio. Also featured on the album are Deception, More Than Words and Remember When It Rained, all high-quality tracks in keeping with the output of this award-winning recording and performing artiste. The album is available islandwide for just $25! Go get your copy today!

And that’s the end of the release from 8 cent Ronnie…..

Estwick is Gone!

Yesterday’s media headlines announced that Ian Estwick was no longer the top man at the NCF, of course Boyce Voice had already told you his ass was gone from every since.

Ex NCF CEO Estwick stated in the media he had nothing to say. Well allow Boyce Voice to say it for him.

The termination of Estwick brings an end to a five year reign of cultural victimisation and vindictiveness which had been unleashed on cultural industries during his tenure as CEO. There are two Estwick memories that have imbued themselves on me that I would like to relate to you in as concise a manner as I can.

Back in 2005, I was invited to a business lunch as the then President of the Barbados Association of Tent Managers at the British High Commission. The purpose was for cultural industry reps to network with visiting UK business people with a view to developing business opportunities.

Estwick attended as NCF CEO also representing our cultural industries and this is how he chose to do it. Over lunch, he proceeded to explain to this African gentleman based in the UK how in Barbados people in cultural industries consisted of persons who had “failed academically”,could do nothing else and therefore became entertainers..

That is how as CEO of NCF he chose to articulate on our behalf, that’s why his ass is gone!

I also vividly remember a meeting at NCF where Mr. Estwick as chairman blatantly ignored and refused to recognise my efforts to make contributions and participate in the discussions, he then dropped some remark about how he ignores people who oppose him publicly. That’s why the ass is gone….!?

Wait, I am sorry, did I say “The ass”? I profusely apologise I meant “his ass”. That’s why HIS ASS is gone!! OK? Don’t want to get my ass in trouble, me and my uneducated Cawmere self. That’s why my ass is still here!

I attended a meeting at government house yesterday where a fellow entertainer remarked to me after all the arrogant abuse that had been suffered by us under the previous CEO, he was now gone and we were still here…

Estwick’s chaotic NCF reign can be described in the words of Shakespeare as “a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury, signifying nothing…”

Or in the words of Boyce Voice, “His ass is gone!”

Mighty Gabby; The $6000 Man

gabby-picture.jpgI now see why Gabby did not want to let go of that cultural ambassador job. I don’t blame he. You know what is $6000.00 a month plus $350 traveling allowance? That is what the Nation newspaper is reporting Anthony “Gabby” Carter was paid monthly for being our cultural ambassador.

Maybe we should be celebrating that it was recognised that an entertainer was worth $6000 per month. It is however, unfortunate that this same financial latitude was not extended to other members of the entertainment fraternity. I remember the meager increase in Party Monarch prize monies which was granted by government in 2007. Also last year, I remember how NCF CEO Estwick took back an event pass from Captain Sawyer and other calypsonians because they did not judge in the calypso competitions. Government could even give a $40 ticket to calypsonians further less substantial monies.

The fact that Gabby was paid $6000 monthly, we should not be vex. I also see that Philip Goddard was getting $15000.00 a month and he can’t even sing. Gabby should have been getting more. But the same monetary fairness should have been applied to other entertainment entities across the board.

What is good for the goose is good for the gander…
(Not that I am calling Gabby a goose and you a gander but you know what I mean)

I am a Michael Jackson Fan; (Keep it in the closet)

michael-jackson-glove-picture.jpg

I am always letting out my deep dark secrets in this blog here’s a next which a lot of people do not know.

I am a Michael Jackson fan!
I think his “Dangerous” CD is one of the greatest albums ever made, I even like it more than the mega hit “Thriller”.
I have not liked any thing he has done recently but his past hits “Smooth Criminal”, “Dirty Diana” “Man in the Mirror” even “Ben” I think they are the greatest ever.

Of course what Michael Jackson has become famous for these days, admitting you are a fan of his is not a good thing. Referring here to those child molestation allegations which brought down his career.
Also, admitting you are a fan of a 49 year old man who talks like a 9 year old girl and has hair and wears make up like a 39 year woman is not cool, I should say I am a fan of his music and not of him.

Here’s a tip I have learnt; Never drive your car and listen to Michael Jackson music up loud!
One morning I was driving my car listening to “Smooth Criminal” with the volume up and I happened to slow down by a bus stop, so there I am singing the chorus “Annie you OK, are you OK Annie” to the top of my voice and dancing as much as I can while behind the wheel of a car. Then I turned and made eye contact with scores of people at the bus stop looking at me in shock. There were some school boys who looked particularly horrified, like they were going to pick up their feet and run at my slightest movement. Its like everyone was thinking “there’s one of them Michael Jackson pervert freaks!”
Don’t let that happen to you people, keep your Michael Jackson addition “in the closet”.
Well now you know another one of my secrets, at least I am man enough to say it out loud.
I LOVE MICHAEL JACKSON! Well at least his music that is, just don’t let any one know, keep it between us on Boyce Voice.

Boyce is moon walking away from the computer…
