Pyramid Back on the Road Labour Day

In September 2007 Pyramid Entertainment became the first entertainment company from the Caribbean to sponsor a music truck at Labour Day Carnival in conjunction with Mount Gay Rum. The 40 ft truck set the Eastern Parkway ablaze with performances from some of the Caribbean’s leading soca entertainers. Alongside the Pyramid line up of acts which included Lil Rick, Peter Ram, Biggie Irie and Barry Chandler, was soca queen Alison Hinds, Omar Mc Quilkin and Tizzy from the El A Kru band, Antigua. Also on board was Bajan born, New York based deejay Dahved Levy and AJ Calloway (formerly of BET).
The truck attracted significant media attention as it proceeded along the carnival route of the Eastern Parkway in high visibility to the more than 1 million spectators and revelers who attended the Labour Day celebrations.
This year, Pyramid and Mount Gay Rum will once again join the Sesame Flyer’s band as it celebrates its 25th year in the entertainment business as one of the largest mas bands in New York.  Sesame Flyers not only boasts over 1500 revelers but has won the title “Band of the Year” for ten consecutive years. Sesame Flyers International remains one of the most highly respected community oriented organizations in New York and recently made yet another unprecedented step when it launched Sesame TV, an online television programme featuring some of the work of the organization and its affiliate companies.
Following on the success of their hugely popular hits at Barbados’ Crop Over this year, Pyramid artistes will join a line up of other hugely successful Caribbean artistes on the branded music truck to entertain their fans and promote their music.
Pyramid is proud to be associated with the Sesame Flyers band as it celebrates its 25th year in the entertainment industry. “We are heartened by the professionalism of this organization and welcome the opportunity to celebrate with them under this year’s theme “Caribbean Heritage.” Music is enjoyed by people of all nationalities and the opportunity to perform and promote our music during this prestigious year for Sesame Flyers will undoubtedly further fuel the harmony, integration, diversity and unity amongst all Caribbean people. The alliance between Pyramid Entertainment and Sesame Flyers is a true demonstration of Caribbean unity and has greatly expanded the promotion of our artistes beyond those which were previously utilized during the Labour day celebrations,” says CEO of Pyramid, Santia Bradshaw.

More Labour Day 2007 Exclusive Pics

Here are some more Exclusive Pics featuring Peter Ram, Lil Rick, Biggie Irie and Alison Hinds. These photos I got from Santia who heads Pyramid Entertainment artistes management company take a peak at them.

I admire Santia for coming up with another option to highlight her artistes on Eastern Parkway and not depending on the vindictive NCF. I can see from the pics, they had quite a following at the Pyramid/Sesame Flyers truck in contrast to the pics I saw from the NCF truck earlier.

As Meshaka said earlier “we could be more organized and send performers that won competitions in Barbados and let New York know our real culture”. The NCF should think of the highlighting the best of Crop Over and Barbados intead of having title winners Lil Rick, Ram and Biggie singing with a Trini truck not to mention our Soca Queen Alison Hinds.

Again I admire Santia not only because she is the best looking lawyer I have ever seen, but also for her initiative and resourcefullness as an artiste manager. (I hope that gets me better artistes fees).

The Outstanding question is: Where was Krosfyah, Edwin, Khiomal and crew, along with Barry & Jabae?

By the way Meshaka, Buffalo Soldier is right, I was just pulling your leg about the Rihanna song, I like Rihanna badd too…

Labour Day Email From New York

email-little-lady-cartoon.jpgHere is an email report I got from New York labor day that I will post for your edification…

>”Labor Day in Brooklyn has come and gone and for the Bajans, just like CropOver, there was controversy. At first there was a lot of uncertainty as to whether there would be a Bajan truck this year, then we heard there was a Bajan truck then we heard there were two Bajan trucks. Well folks, to clear the air, there was only one Bajan truck. The second truck was really a Trini truck with Bajan artistes. Sesame Flyers, a well established Trini organisation in Brooklyn was the truck.
Bajans in large numbers as usual “got behind the truck”….the Bajan truck. They wore their colors in bandanas, T shirts and whatever else and carried flags. The costumed members, though small in number gave agood account of themselves.
The band Electric along with DJs, Blood, Mr. Dale and other Bajan artistes, kept the crowd in a party mood until they were turned off the Parkway at 4:30 p.m because of a shooting incident as we were told then, now we are hearing otherwise. There are lots of questions for WIADCA, the organisers of the parade. Other bands were also turned off, but some bands were allowed to go through after some were turned off. Was there a plan to have only Trini costumed bands on the Parkway?
From what we heard about the time the organisers had to prepare, they did their best with what they had in such a short space of time. Sup;port must be given to the Bajan-American Domino League.
Reports from the Sesame Flyers truck which had Lil Rick, Peter Ram, Biggie Irie were varied. Some said it was good some said it was not all that. Some said they had a lot of Bajans some said the Bajan truck had more Bajans. One thing for sure is that it was not identified along the Parkway as a Bajan truck. Anyone who knows Sesame Flyers knows it was not a Bajan truuck.
Bajans in New York need to get their act together.”

Now I hope you noticed that the email opening statement that “there was controversy” in New York, and notice I did not go down there. They are always saying that Peter Boyce causes all the controversy in Barbados well you cant blame me, only the NCF went down there, maybe NCF wants to “export” controversy as a national product of Barbados.
