Tribute to Rihanna; She Looks like “Food”

rihanna-good-pic-blog.jpg

I came across this picture of the Rihanna, winner of the Barbados Music Awards Female Entertainer of the year,I was quite taken then…

I had to get up from the computer and walk a bit to calm myself. This woman look so good then, now here’s a woman who looks like food!
I am sure the men out there would be quite taken by this picture and some women too

Just look at Rihanna lying in that bed with those legs and lips, looking all sensuous… wouldn’t you like to get under her umbrella…? ………I have just been advised by Darron that this is not that kind of a blog…so I must stop

I was a bit miffed that Rihanna did not make it to the Barbados Music Awards this year, I considered going into one of the bathrooms and hanging myself but I had people to take home, plus I would have missed Krosfyah’s performance.
The below Madd track I want to dedicate to the beautiful Rihanna, its like Eric Lewis is singing about her in this song.
Girl you look so sweet
you gimmie cold bumps from my head to my feet

Click and take a listen to the song “FOOD” and see what I mean

Just take note there’s a difference between eating and “biting” ….

Entertainment and Politics; Nation Newspaper Editorial

I previously quoted from it but today Boyce Voice invites you to take a read of the full Nation Newspaper editorial which speaks to the involvement of entertainment in the results of the this month’s general elections.

Entertainers participating in politics and endorsing candidates is not unique to Barbados, it has been an accepted norm for years internationally. Recently Oprah endorsed U.S candidate Obama and it is widely rumored that Frank Sinatra had a hand in the election of John F Kennedy to the Presidency of the United States back in the 60’s.

Speaking of the United States politics I just want to get this comment in, what do you feel is motivating Hilary Clinton to run for President of the United states? Do you think she has seen the perks that the position can bring as experienced by her husband?

If I was Bill I would be careful though, if Hilary were to become President and had to spend late nights at the Oral office I would never really be sure… oops sorry my bad, I meant OVAL office…

Gabby “Regi, Regi”

Owen “Gouging” Attack on Entertainment

price-gouging-pic.jpg

I could not believe my eyes when I read the attack leveled at our entertainment industry by our Minister of Culture and Prime Minister Owen Arthur. It was like being hit in my entertainment face with a piece of “hardwood”.

The article quoted PM Arthur lamenting the fact that despite him removing duties on local CDs they still retail at stores for $49 in Barbados while he can purchase the same CDs for U.S $12 in New York.

It is these kind of reckless statements that encourage piracy by giving the impression that local entertainers are ripping off the public on cost of legitimate CDs. Owen is basically accusing entertainers of “price gouging” by not passing on savings to customers and is promising “anti gouging” legislation to deal with our asses when he gets back in.

PM obviously forgot that cute little government tax nick named VAT aka Value Added Tax. The Government adds on 15% vat when calypsonians collect CDs from the manufacturer and then Government adds on 15% again on retail selling price to customers.

So that means a whopping 30 % of the price of a legitimate CD is government vat. Therefore Boyce Voice agrees with the PM the price is too high and should be drastically reduced by taking VAT off CDs like entertainers have been asking for years.

The PM also forgot the meeting between his Ministry of Finance and record shop retailers back in 2000 where the selling price of local CDs were agreed on with Government. Since then the cost of living and CD production cost has gone up but CD retail prices have remained the same.

Why is the PM attacking entertainers at election time anyway, is he trying to beat our votes out of us? I blame Bajan comedians Mac Fingall and Trevor Eastmond though. That is what you get for cracking so much “vagina-biting” jokes….

The PM should focus on the fact that there is more than just price gouging going on, some people are gouging other things and biting them right out too. If Owen gets back in he also needs to set up some “Anti Biting Legislation”.

From Roll to Shontelligence

shontelle-blog-pic.jpg

Shontelle Performing with Natahlee in Bacchanal Time 2005

“Shontelligence” is the name of the album. Shontelle is the name of the girl. Ms Shontelle Layne is the name of the next Bajan artiste being positioned to make it big in the international music scene with her soon to be released album “Shontelligence”.

That is a damn interesting name for an album which was titled to reflect her intelligence and musical ability. Shontelle is being managed by Evan Rogers of Syndicated Rhythm Productions who introduced Rihanna to the world. Local Bajan manager Sonia Mullins of Starchild still remains involved in Shontelle’s management process which shows that she is not forgetting her roots.

Just two years ago we (Madd) had Shontelle performing with Bacchanal Time Calypso tent with Natahlee doing the song “colours”, so we would like to believe we discovered her first. Shontelle will now have the opportunity to be “proud to be a Bajan and represent her nation” just like the lyrics from the song “Colours” she wrote and performed in Bacchanal Time.

Today we present another song that Shontelle wrote but Alison Hinds performed that has been redone, Here’s Shontelle and Rihanna and this guy group (can u guess who they are?) performing “Roll”

Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton (lol)

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Do you see “laugh out loud” that is in the title of this post?

That was placed there by Darron because I sent him this “Kenny and-Dolly video to post on Boyce Voice.

He obviously does not know how big Kenny and Dolly is bout here in the Caribbean. They are not as big as Madd mind you, but they have quite a bit of standing as it relates to Christmas.

From when we had the Rue Rue retail music store back in the 90’s Kenny and Dolly “Once upon a Christmas CD” was always a hot seller.

So today Christmas, Boyce Voice is presenting the video for you too view.

I think what also has Darron is the mention of the Christ child and the religious symbolism epitomized in the presentation.

Between you and me, I think Darron is evil, like Santa Claus…

I wished you Merry Christmas yesterday so I will not do it again today, get a life…

Governor General’s Award Nifca Comment

Since I attended the Nifca Gala in November this is something that has been keeping me up at night…

How can a man performing a song entitled the “The Blue Bells of Scotland” be awarded the Governor General’s Trophy in our local National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (Nifca) competition?

It was determined by Governor General Sir Clifford Husbands that Samuel Millington who performed the song “Blue Bells of Scotland” on his trombone be given the Governor General’s award plus $5000, plus a trophy. That’s a lot of stuff for highlighting England.

I, being the idiot that I am, would stupidly figure that the words “National” and “Independence” mentioned in Nifca would mandate that such a special recognition be given to performance of song which highlights our own Bajan attributes, not a tribute to England.

If the song were “The Khus Khus Grass of our Scotland District” or “The White Sands of we Brandon’s Beach” or Gabby’s “Emmerton” that would be work. But the “Blue Bells of Scotland”??

The Governor General needs to go and come again….

Girls Need Love - Hotta Flames

zr-cd-blog-cover.jpg

Ok Guys and Gals,

Its time to check out the CD “Reggae is Love” on the ZR Music label, ZR in this case meaning Zion Roots and not ZR transportation.

The cd is subtitled Reggae Baje Volume 2 and features of course Bajan artistes.

Melody Man, Storm Thrilla, Red Alarm and more all have tracks on here, including Ayana John with Guns and Roses which we featured earlier.

Going to let you listen to “Girls Need Love” by Hotta Flames. This one gets heavy rotation on the radio. The lyrics say, “Girls need more than sex they need love and affection and due respect” those are wise words.

Darron told me he mixed this track. Hope he listened to the lyrics so he would learn something, and you will learn something too when you click and listen to the song below “Girls need Love”…
