You are probaly saying “What the ass is Boyce writing here? He’s finally flipped out”. Well what you are reading here was taken from a German website named dancehallmusic.de who have an interest in Boyce Voice. I am not 100% sure what they are saying and am a little bit concerned of the mention of “homophobie” in the last sentence there. I am not homo any thing nor a phobie either. Unless its something good in which case I am. It just goes to show BoyceVoice is going places and being read from people from all over the globe via the net.

The internet is making the world a smaller place that’s how Johannes Kueckens and Martin Stahl got into contact with Madd to make our music available on their Faluma website which also operates dancehallmusic.de . I met with Martin over lunch when he came down for Crop Over to check out the latest music releases. Martin said that while the market for soca music in germany was small his company was committed to promoting the genre. It is really amazing how soca music can transcend language barriars and be accepted even by a relative few in a foreign territory like Germany.

When we talk about producing calypsos with international appeal, it might mean we should consider recording some german calypso tracks on our albums to target that market. Can you sing “raise yuh hand” in german? Well start learning!
So I want to big up the German posse, would like to do it in German but I am pretty ignorant, sometimes even just English is difficult for me.

One of the Boyce Voice posts that Martin said he liked was My Pretty Shirt so he wore one when we had lunch at Ship Inn, which was cool as I was wearing one too, you can see them in the above picture and there’s Carolann between us, well she is just pretty!

>*Note: For the record I would like to state that I DO have some shirts that aren’t pretty!

I was at David Kirton’s launch of his new album Time for Change a few months ago when I heard his Green Camouflage song. I fell in love with it immediately.

Anyone who knows me personally knows that my favorite colour is camouflage which happens to be illegal wear in Barbados. Since you cannot wear the clothing I compensate by wearing socks having a pen, part of my car is camouflage and as I sit writing this I am wearing a camouflage boxer (check out my pics below)
So when I heard David’s song I was impressed that some one had finally dedicated a song to a colour as magnificent as camouflage instead of just singing about women all the time. In addition to Green Camouflage there are 10 other tracks on David’s album described on his website as modern alternative roots reggae songs with organic strong lyrics. That means it’s healthy for you to listen to them.

When you listen to this song it epitomizes Crop Over in that it is like sucking a sweet piece of sugar cane which is our Barbados national product which we celebrate at this season.
We produce the sweetest cane and the sweetest songs like this “Newkey” song which is available on the Madd Album “the Jucking Board” and soon on the 2007 Bacchanal Time DVD.

Hi folks,

For those of you who have not heard, Nah Goin’ Home won two of the Biggest awards at the International Soca Awards on Sunday night at the Rum Jungle Cafe in Queens. The song was voted Song of the Year and was chosen as Best Groovy Song of the Year. Once again I’d like to thank all my fans who voted for me in all nominated categories.

Peter Ram and Barry Chandler were also award winners. Barry was voted “Best New Male Soca Artist” and Peter Ram won the award for Best Collaboration “Woman by my Side” feat. Shurwayne Winchester.

Congratulations to Biggie Irie & Peter Ram and their Management Santia Bradshaw of Pyramid Entertainment one of my favorite people. Also congrats to Barry Chandler and management Dwayne Grazettes. Dwayne was quite fussy. He sent me a text immediately as the award was announced on Saturday. Dwayne’s text contained extracts of his speech which I don’t think the National Cultural Foundation would be happy about, let’s just say they were not lauded for being the driving force behind Barry and his band Jabae.

Congrats again to all the winners of the International Soca Awards and you know Peter Ram and Barry are part of the Bacchanal Time crew so we will big them up especially.

One week ago today, in Brittons Hill St Michael Barbados, the earth opened and swallowed an apartment building containing an entire family of five people. Despite desperate efforts by authorities to rescue the family, sadly the bodies of the Codringtons were recovered only recently from the scene.

As Tent manager of Bacchanal Time when I first heard this song I was “frighten”, de man calling people names then…
Kidsite with “Ah Frighten” When I hear songs like this it reminds me of the serious purpose calypso serves of being the mouth piece of the people, that is why we must ensure that this kind of “biting” social commentary lives on forever.
It Lives on for ever in Bacchanal Time calypso tent and also on Bacchanal Time 2007 DVD Soon to be released.

Here’s Khiomal and Mikey performing “Bashment Bacchanal” one of my favorite songs for the season. Khiomal ably represented Bacchanal Time with this song in the 2007 Party Monarch competition and placed 3rd.
This song was also used as the opening theme song for Bacchanal Time calypso tent this year for obvious reasons of course…

Rick placed 2nd and 3rd in Tune of Crop competition this year, plus he won Party Monarch. Rick win so much this year, 2007 should be proclaimed the Year of the Hypa Dog! If you were to read my previous post I want to dip my cherry in your chocolate, Rick should change his song to “U like eating too much Saskia…”

Do you feel if you were to blow a “conch” it would sound like the one in the top of Rick’s song?

Out of Guyana is Adrian Dutchin with a controversial track. Is it possible or impossible? He just wants to know.

From the 2007 Crop Over album Underground Soca Vol 1 which also features Sicki’s Bad Man and Peter Ram doing plenty Pumpin’.

Heres a nice video where Adrian touches on that perennial question: is it possible to be in love with two ladies at the same time? Well I will tell you that it is not possible for you to take the same two ladies to the beach and expect them to “fun and frolic” like you will see happening in this music video. I would not advise you to try that at home.
