That vulgarity quote came out of a conversation I had with famous nation reporter Ricky Jordan who telephoned me and mentioned by the way that he had read my blog. (Yeah Ricky read my blog yuh idiot). He was particularly intrigued with my “Decency is DeKey” and the angle I had taken in that article.
Here’s the reason I was writing about the Ricky conversation. He was working on an article on vulgar calypsos so he wanted Timmy’s number so he could ask him about his Crop Over hit “De Sauce”. I could not understand why. I told Ricky that Timmy’s song is not vulgar because “vulgarity is in the ear of the beholder”!
So Ricky said that was a great quote that he would put in his article and I said to my self “if it is such a great quote I have got to put it in my blog quick, I cannot let Ricky scoop me with my own quote*. Hence the title of this piece. The next question Ricky asked was, do I know of any other vulgar songs? You see why you must watch the way the press asks questions, there are like lawyers, tricky!
If I know about any other “vulgar songs”? Next thing I would be quoted in the paper as saying people songs vulgar. Ricky keeps you on your toes. I emphasised that Timmy’s song is about him eating a woman’s food and liking her sauce, what could be vulgar about that?
I told Ricky the he should keep checking the blog as there will be a boss saucy song that will be released right here exclusively. You are to watch out for it too.
So remember the quote “vulgarity is in the ear of the beholder”! Do not let anybody stick any thing in your frigging ear! *If you look in the Nation you would see Ricky scooped me any way but since I had finished writing this article I am using it dammit!
