Whats all this negative hullabaloo about Madonna adopting a Malawian girl? I am sorta freaking loss.

Here you have it that superstar Madonna wants to take a three Year old girl named “Mercy” from living in an orphanage in one of the most improvised nations in the world.
She wants take that Mercy to the United States of America to live the life of a privileged kid complete with MacDonald’s, IPod, education, health care, a nanny and all the perks that come with being a rich kid.

Would you believe people complaining??
Talking about the girl should be raised by her extended family; she is living in an orphanage for Christ’s sake, that’s where unwanted children end up.
All of a sudden some family member can be heard saying they want to raise the girl.
In other words they now want money from Madonna.

I tell you if I was that little girl when I grow up and I realise that Madonna wanted to adopt me to take me to the land of Barbie and Britney Spears and some member of my family keep me back to suffer and I now bout de place starve out fetching water and struggling to survive in one of the poorest places in the world I would be vex as hell.
Extended family my ass, I want to be Madonna’s baby!

In fact if those bad minded people were to truly think of the long term best interests of the child they would not oppose Madonna.

I want to applaud the laudable efforts of Madonna for attempting to “rescue” Mercy and give her a life every little  girl dreams of.

The adoption judge needs to have Mercy on Mercy and let her go.

Well to Madonna, if it doesn’t work out and you want to come down here and adopt me, Boyce would be gone

If it was up to Walter Maloney Face Book peeps and all Barbados would have to stop all that stupid partying and wukking up that you been doing and staying home and focusing on your bills.

I could hardly believe my eyes when I read the headline.

National Union of Public Workers President Walter Maloney wants to stop all feting and shows in Barbados because of the economic conditions;

So Reggae on the Hill want calling off, Teshia needs to stop Fantasy Fridays and Stephanie chase and Nelly done away with all those fetes and beauty pageants.

The NUPW President is crying shame on entertainment promoters and the wasteful activities they are engaged in.

What is the aim of having these shows? He asks

“What is the case for having reggae this Calypso that?”

“What does it prove dancing? It is not going to help the country”

I don’t recall last time I heard some one make such entertainment ignorant statements.

What Maloney is talking It reminds me of a four letter word starting with c, bare c***

As the President of a workers union, he does not realise all the people he is seeking to put out of work.

At shows not only entertainers are employed but also security guards, backstage crews and food and drink personnel.

Boutiques benefit from increased clothing sales, Radio and Television benefits from increased advertising revenue. More money is injected into the economy.

Maloney wants to know what purpose that dancing serves, how does it help pay your bills? Soon he will ask what purpose does watching TV serve?

All the television watchers Chantelle, Fenelle need to throw their TVs outside. No more “Criminal Minds” for you Bobby, does watching that help pay your bills?

If Maloney look at those people who let losing their jobs and mortgages get to them and then end up shooting themselves and their families, he would see why it is good to get out and relax every once in a while.

So if you want to go out and enjoy Beanie man, the Marley’s, Krosfyah, Jon Doe and Indian, who the ass is Walter Maloney to stop you?

In a nut shell Maloney’s statements are financially reckless and culturally flawed, or as we would say, he talking bare c***!

Some years ago I wrote a blogged a piece entitled “I want to Kick a Nation Photographer” but have u seen photographers recently? They don’t look like sweet breads. Then I was saying maybe I will wait till I see my FB (Face Book) friend photographer Cherie Pitt and try something, when the thing fracas happened with the Police I realized Cherie would probably have given me a run for my money too.

I see now in the news the footage of Rap Star Kanye West attacking a photographer and smashing his camera at an airport and I am again motivated.

My Facebook friend Dawn commented on it, the sentiment was “people spend their lives and do anything to get before cameras and get popular then when they are big they grab photographers and smash the same cameras,

Maybe Peter Boyce falls under that category, back in the 80’s I went out of my way to get in the papers, when I finally got a little write up in the advocate I was so excited I treasured it for weeks. Now sometimes I look in the paper and sometimes curse when seeing articles about me, usually my bad days start with an early phone call saying “u see what is in the paper about u today?” 

I would dearly love to smash a camera, is just I feel the photographer would drive some cuffs in my ass and make me pay for it. One of these days when I will meet a small photographer and smash his camera, or wait until I see a lady photographer and “Chris Brown” her camera.

The last picture of me that was taken was outside the NCF where I went to attend a meeting, that picture was taken by Charles Grant who is Cherie’s father. Now Charles is a very serious looking man, I don’t recall ever seeing him smile, I dread what to think would happen to me if I were to grab his camera and smash it into the ground. You would think reading this I have something against the Grants and photographers but I assure u that could not be further from the truth.

Regardless of your feelings for or against media photographers, one must exercise self control less you end up before the law courts being charged like what is happening to Kayne West right now.

So do not Kayne West any photographers to day….. and dont Chris Brown any women either…..     I could not resist that

Previously abused show bizz personality Robin Givens has given advice, Dr Phil and all the American TV morning shows have been all shouting in tandem that Rihanna going back Chris beat up Brown was a bad idea.

And to add injury to insult now it is now reported that Rihanna is in the studio doing a song with Chris “Bust Ya face” Brown.

So while radio stations have been pulling Brown’s songs off the radio to support her, Rihanna is doing a song with the specimen, can you imagine that?

FYI to Rihanna believe it or not there are other men in the world to choose from, in fact research has shown they are billions of them. You need to stop this “Disturbia” path you are on before it’s too late. 

Besides Oprah says no, and if Oprah says no, you tell Chris beater boy Brown to go.

Brown was driving a vehicle with Robyn F. as the front passenger on an unknown street in Los Angeles. Robyn F. picked up Brown’s cellular phone and observed a three-page text message from a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with.

“A verbal argument ensued and Brown pulled the vehicle over on an unknown street, reached over Robyn F. with his right hand, opened the car door and attempted to force her out. Brown was unable to force Robyn F. out of the vehicle because she was wearing a seat belt. Brown began applying pressure to Robyn F.’s left and right carotid arteries, causing her to be unable to breathe and she began to lose consciousness.

“She reached up with her left hand and began attempting to gouge his eyes in an attempt to free herself. Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and then released her. While Brown continued to punch her, she turned around and placed her back against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest, placed her feet against Brown’s body and began pushing him away. Brown continued to punch her on the legs and feet, causing several contusions.

“Robyn F. began screaming for help and Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighborhood heard Robyn F.’s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F. was issued a Domestic Violence Emergency Protective Order.”

The international media is rife with the word that Rihanna Fenty has reunited with alleged woman beater Chris Brown.

In my previous blog on this incident I asked if Chris Brown had eaten from the root of ignorance, I would now have to ask if he shared it with Rihanna.

An International media quote stated “Rihanna and Chris Brown are both back in the city where she was beaten to a bloody pulp just weeks ago” 

We also saw the extent of the beating Rihanna received in the police photo which since then circulated on the internet.

Its times like this that I realise that I don’t know what love is, if love is a partner who beats me viciously to a bloody pulp and because he calls and says “Happy Birthday” I pick up my ass and be back with them I probably will never know.

The fairy tale perception which is perpetuated by the media has been shattered, when you see Rihanna and Brown together now it represents a battered woman who is in a relationship with a vicious abusive man.

What is most concerning is the example it sets for young males who idolize Brown who will see the reconciliation as a sign its ok to “share some blows’ when it is needed to keep your woman in line. 

“If a bitch puts herself in a mans position then a bitch should get hit”

That’s just one of the many asinine comments to my previous Rihanna Chris blog where some are condoning and even applauding the beating.

What message does Rihanna returning to Brown send to the average woman in an abusive relationship who will now feel there is no choice but to stick with the stupid ass man.If a woman like Rihanna with her resources cant leave how can I?

Rihanna’s father says he will support her what ever decision she makes, frankly I find it hard to support people who do igrunce regardless of who you are. 

Some people call it foolish for Rihanna to go back, some are saying its love  the words that come to my mind I will not say as I cannot refer to a fellow Combermerian in that manner.

Lets hope for Rihanna’s sake she is right and she does not come to regret her decision, maybe in the fullest of time she will have a fairy tale ending, though in real life that rarely ever happens…

The Cottage Studios, a subsidiary of Good Vybz Inc launched the cd singles by the 2008 winners of the 6-12 Cherish Breedy and 13-20 Quinn Belgrave categories of the Richard Stoute Teen Talent at the Garrison Secondary School on Friday February 20, 2009 at a special extended assembly at 9:00 a.m., at the time of the launch at the school, all radio stations across Barbados were sent a copy of the songs to be played at 9:00 a.m.

During the 2008 RSTTC, Good Vybz Inc., provided material for give-a-ways, members of the management team attended all of the preliminaries, semis – the semi-finalists were showcased at the Ship Inn every Thursday night during the Strategy performances, leading up to their final performances to give the contestants exposure, in a quest to making them comfortable in preparation for their big night, as well as presenting Mr. Stoute at the finals with a cheque for the cost of the full package promised which served as their commitment to the sponsorship package offered. 

Quinn is a past student and Cherish is presently a student of that school.

The song “I’m The One“ which Cherish sings, was written by a Garrison Secondary School old scholar, Toni Norville and produced by Matthew “Fewwture’ Ashby, Shane Forrester and Lori Worrell at The Cottage Studios.

This was the first time such an event was held at the school and the Principal, Mr. Matthew Farley and Master of Ceremonies was extremely proud.

It must be noted that Malcolm X, Kareen Clarke, Daddy Mark, as well as writer of Cherish’s song Toni Norville were present at the launch which was a grand affair and very inspiring for the entire school students pas t and present and teachers alike, also present was the first principal Mr. Sealy and from the legal profession two of a long line of attorneys Junior – Allsopp and magistrates and Ian Weekes. Ministers Michael Lashley and Chris Sinckler also attended.

Quinn’s song  “ Wit’ Me “ was written and produced by the latest addition to the Good Vybz Inc, team Michael “B-Roca” Holder, and it also features Kirk Brown whose initiative, through his interest in culture generally, has been primarily responsible for this effort. 

Cherish Breedy also celebrated her 13th birthday on February 20th making her the youngest and first teen talent winner to be recorded at this age (12).

Merle Niles presented two photos of the performers. Cherish and Quinn to the school to launch the opening of a photo gallery and announced that these photos will are the first in a long line of photos to be given to the school of persons who excelled.

“The thoughtless theories of thirty thousand thespians” that’s a phrase I constantly repeat to myself, before any appearance whether it be radio television or a public speaking event. This was taught to me by the late Jeannette Layne Clark, the purpose was for me to practice pronouncing my “th’s” properly to correct the speaking fault most bajans are famous for…

I attended Jeannette’s “Speak for your self” course back in 2004 and because of the tutoring efforts of her and Sharon Marshall I started to pronounce my “th’s” correctly, so when you hear me on the radio saying three instead of tree, that is Jeannette’s teachings living on in my speech..

When you hear me speaking badly well you know that would not please Jeannette, she was known for calling up broadcasters and correcting them for their mangling of the English Language.

Jeannette was a woman who spoke her mind, back in December 1983 she said of Madd’s first yuletide release the song should be “thrown into the inner recesses of the nearest dust bin” even when she told you off she did so eloquently.

Which then led to Madd immortalizing her in our next release “Janet” which continues to get airplay all like now.

Jeannette was renowned for her proliferic writings, her weekly newspaper columns “Lick Mout Lou” and “Private line”.   Also the novel “A Villa in Paradise” and her hilarious comedy pieces “Okras in de stew” “Partners in profit” and the long running stage production “Pampalam”

I had the privilege of being directed by Jeannette in 30th anniversary Pampalam in 2007, which was the last one staged.

I was Ali Singh in the “Partners in Profit” piece for that year and I learnt a lot and enjoyed it immensely. Ali Singh got to ride a bicycle on stage every night that was bare fun.

Jeannette was brave enough to put the controversial Peter Boyce in her production which some people would not have dared to do. 

Also in that Pampalam were Marvo Manning, Merle Niles, Sade, Janice Perryman, Wendell Thomas Yolanda Holder, Eleanor Rice and Angela Weithers. 

The production was written, produced and directed by Jeanette.

At the end I got every body to sign the program for that year, but I missed getting Jeannette’s and drove around with the booklet for months intending to pass and get it signed… It’s too late now…

I sat with with Jeannette on the CBC Board on the one meeting she attended as Deputy Chairman before she resigned because of illness.

When I attended Jeannette’s funeral I made sure and pronounced my “th’s when I was singing the hymns, 

Jannette is gone but her excellence and legacy lives on

If you desire to be a professional and “qualified” entertainer musician my buddy and associate Chris Harper has teamed up with the prestigious Berklee College of Music to offer barbadians an opportunity to be qualified.

Note use of the that word “qualified” that is something I find those of us in entertainment don’t pay enough attention to. Since no compulsory educational qualifications are needed to be an entertainer we can just say “I is an entertainer” and that’s it. Sometimes I read in the court pages an entertainer is charged for something and its someone that in all my 30 years in the business I have never seen them yet, but them pulling we down claiming to be part of our industry.

Thats why it would be good if it were mandatory that to be deemed an entertainer you needed some qualification, not only for that reason but because we have something to fall back on should times change.

That’s why its important to take advantage of this opportunity that Chris is offering us and I would like to publicly compliment Harper on his laudable efforts to uplift and educate the industry.

Over the past five years Berklee College of Music has partnered with Notes to Note Inc. to conduct the Barbados leg of their annual scholarship tour. This year the project has been strengthened and is an official project of the office of International Programs which will allow students to access more of the college’s resources through addition scholarships and financial aid.

 The scholarship office released the follow statement on the scholarship tour.

 ”Berklee travels the globe visiting over 40 cities annually seeking those talented musicians who we feel are an excellent match to the college.  By participating in a live audition and interview, applicants are considered for merit-based scholarships towards the full-time program or the Five Week Summer Performance Program.”

 The scholarships auditions will take place on Saturday 21^st February from 9:00am at the Barbados Community College.                 

Persons from Barbados and the region who wish to take part in the audition process need to complete the application for admission online at https://www.berklee.edu/apply/.

  On Thursday 19^th and Friday 20^{th of} February at the Barbados Community College at 5:00pm each day there will be a lecture on the admissions process and a pre-audition workshop respectively. These will be conducted by Vice-President of student affairs Steve Lipman and Professors John Pierce and John Marasco of the Berklee College of Music.

What could have possessed Chris Brown’s brain that he could think could raise his hand and hit our Bajan Superstar Combermere Queen Rihanna?

Hast he eaten from the root of ignorance, is he on drugs or is he just a dumb ass?

There we were looking for Rihanna to perform at the Grammys last night and to see her win some more awards and shout out “Barbados this one is for you” one more time.

Next thing we hear this morning how Chris Brown and Rihanna were driving on their way to Grammys got in an argument and Brown injured a Fenty in her face and turned himself into Police. As a result of the incident neither of them made it to the awards.

When you look at a superstar of the stature of Rihanna her face, her legs, her entire body is worth millions of dollars.Look at all the lucrative endorsements Rihanna is involved in, Clinique, Nike, JC Penny Jeans and you would see what Brown threatens when it crosses his little brain to hit her.  

Rihanna needs to set an example for all the females out there who have been hit by stupid ass men, press charges against Brown and leave his dumb chewing gum endorsement ass.  Rihanna is way bigger than Chris Brown and she doesn’t need to be associated to have him to help her career.

I already told my son I don’t want to hear him listening to Chris Brown music or watching his videos again, Chris Brown he needs to see Rihanna Fenty and dont see she, good!

Brown should now be Persona non grata  as it relates to him visiting Barbados in the future and if Rihanna doesn’t leave his ass, it’s going to be me and her or to bajanise it “me and she”!
